Can the Tories win the election.

Quote:
According to the research from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), for the first time more people from working households are living below the poverty line in the UK than those from non-working ones.
If we can believe the figures then this will not help the Tories at the next election.
6.3 million working families are below the poverty line and a bit less for those not working. So thats 12m in the uk below the poverty line from those 2 groups.
Add to that pensioners and other disgruntled people then I think the Tories will be hard pushed to convince these groups to vote for them.

One thing is for sure, Labour will not improve things by spending money we have not got so what are the options.
In these austere days it would be good if same austerity was spread about a bit more.

Re: Can the Tories win the election.

Most of the Austerity measures taken are philosophical and nothing to do with balancing the books indeed measures taken by the Condems have added to the debt, the Tories electoral base is shrinking to the South of England,so it is doubtful they will ever command a majority in the near future the right in UK politics is split zoo unless they can get UKIP out of the equation then they are finnished

Maybe go into coalition with them ?
When Scotland gets independence then Labour will be relegated to a minor party.
England needs a breath of fresh air in a new middle of the roadish party with honest MPs. Wishful thinking and no chance there then !

The Tory Toffs are finished ,there will be no independence in Scotland, the Tories will split and become an irrelevance.

Then we are doomed if the socialists get in again as history has shown.

Re: Can the Tories win the election.

There is no true socialist party going to be elected in the UK ,Social Democrats yes the Labour party has moved to the centre ground and will be joined others ,I see us being governed by a centre left coalition, one thing that concerns me is the lack of involvement in Politics by the people of Britain and that leaves the door open to extremists

Re: Can the Tories win the election.

On the contrary, England seems to be turning Blue. The Tories control 18 local councils, Labour 3.

BBC News - Local election results for councils in England and Wales

At the last General Election, Tories had 36% of the vote, Labour had 29%.
Again, the map shows a predominace of Blue.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/election2010/results/

With the latest Polls showing that the gap between the Parties has now reduced to 5 points (down from a Labour lead of 12 points in Feb) I think it is Labour who have massive problems. If the economy in England (especially) continues to grow between now and the next Election, I can see Labour being completely decimated and a fair proportion of their "working class" votes going to UKIP.

I reckon that a Tory/UKIP coalition is very much on the cards, this time round.

I am a life long left winger and have always voted Labour. However I despair about the current Labour set up - a bunch of " powder puff" wannabees who seem incapable of laying a glove on the "posh boys" and their elitist policies Of course the Tories can win the next election - as long as Labour continue as they are. The best prospect of the Tories not winning outright is Nigel Farrage's UKIP - but they ARE Tories!

My personal hope is that Labour keep Milliband and Balls in post until the next election - that way they are sure to lose. However it will be a good election to lose and not just because Milliband will go.Whoever gets in is going to have to bring in further austerity measures just to reduce the debt situation and if Labour win in 2015 and have to do this then they will be finished for years and years.
As regards poverty - poverty in the UK is often overstated imho.. Many of those supposed to be in poverty in my area still have their Iphones, their Sky TV packages and their fags/booze and wacky backy etc.Just because one is a regular at the food banks does not necessarily equate to poverty - poverty is where your priorities are geared to basic housing and the means to survive and you do not have the resources to achieve these priorities.
