The declaration includes all properties (both White & Black owned).

De Beers are no longer a major player in SA. They are part of Anglo American plc and operations are now mainly in Botswana - moved their HO to London a while ago ( I wonder if they are thinking of moving on again ) but the SA government have made attempts to nationalize.

The SA government always refers to ‘land sharing’ (as opposed to Grand Larceny ) which brings to mind the great Thomas Sowell…

Accept what you are saying there Jacey. I have not kept up with these mergers and takeovers. My point is whether gold and diamond mines etc may be next.

Any privately owned mines could be targeted.

As far as I know Kimberley is pretty much worked out and gold & platinum are the most important products.

But play safe and don’t buy any SA shares!

So... conservative Thomas Sowell is great when his views serve your interests!

Conservative (Economist) Thomas Sowell also believes Obama was the worst President ever, affirmative action and welfare in US was to the detriment of the blacks, destroying the black family structure 200 years of slavery had not been able to, before.

He has a very dim view of liberals and so called intellectuals, progressives and considers them racist.

I like and respect Thomas Sowell and agree with his views. Do you still like him or only the views that serve your immediate interests?

The topic is land appropriation in SA not Thomas Sowell - his comment is appropriate to topic but any views I might have of him are of no relevance.

Your introduction of Obama etc are not relevant to property ‘appropriation’ in SA and give me the impression that you seek to divert and be contentious
– but surely not in view of Philip’s #418?!

Re: Post-apartheid South Africa.

I am sure during Thomas Sowell's journey from Marxism to Libertarian (broad spectrum), it wouldn't be hard for anyone to find a view they may agree or disagree with...

Look at Sowell on Obama and President Trump, he disliked them both calling them "glib egomaniacs "

To tell you the truth I too respect his view, the one of his on opposing Trump's candidacy, not much else.

Re: Post-apartheid South Africa.

President Ramaphosa has mentioned in the past about South Korea's successful introduction of land reform.... which was miles away from Zimbabwe's disaster, of a policy which ruined its agricultural economy and nobody gained black or white.

So more promotion of this model should be presented to the people, to keep their promise of 30% as a start to more black ownership. So SA's economy can still be kept on track, with foreign investment feeling secure enough to keep pumping in future investments ...

The Korean land reform....

Re: Post-apartheid South Africa.

I know of no cases where land reform has been successful except possibly in Cambodia where they took it very seriously.

But first you’d have to eliminate all lawyers, doctors, businessmen and the entire middle class together with anyone who had ever made contact with persons overseas or who could read & write and accept the fact that you’d need to import any food that was required.

Fortunately that policy was reversed post Pol Pot.

And it’s curious that Mnangagwa is now trying to lure White farmers back to Zim – why would that be I wonder
