Has Russia gone Rogue?

Articles: Has Russia Gone Rogue?

Information revealed last week indicates that it has, and that because of the reckless weakness of Barack Obama, America now faces a neo-Soviet Russian bear primed for aggression, just as in the era of the USSR…

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

I think Russia feels threatened by encroachment into a sphere of influence which it always held sway.

I also think after the cold war they thought their was a gentleman's agreement of which states they classed as buffer states between them and NATO and the red line has been breached

Putin's whole policy is to restore a strong Russia ,difficult when the Russian bears ears are being nibbled . They rely on a economy which is not diverse but solely propped up by energy and its supply . Outside business finds it hard to do business in Russia and is not encouraged to invest in by its unpredictablity.

So all and all a pretty negative outlook. But the last thing we in the West need is a collapsed Russian economy . As this is when leaders like Putin need a distraction for the electorate, away from his bad leadership and the failing economy.

A war or a conflict is a great way to distract and unite against a common enemy and does your ratings not to badly too .Just look to Maggie and the Falklands.

Obama's weak approach to foreign policy causes a vacuum, leading to uncertainty amongst allies which in turn causes fear of the unknown.

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

A fair enough summary BC but let’s not forget that it’s Putin that is doing the encroachment at gun point.

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

I was thinking of the encroachment in his eyes is country's wanting to join the West.

Which he saw in his supposed agreement as his sphere of influence and Russian and not to be encouraged by the West

So the encroachment by Russia even by the gun he believes wrongly is not a encroachment at all but a reaction too one

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

A reaction to an encroachment that hasn’t happened yet = preemptive encroachment?!

Hardly a reason for invading Crimea - but then we’d be on the wrong thread.

I think we can count all Putin's actions to date as rogue.

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

Putin's not wasted time on 'diplomacy' & is getting 'straight to the point', the EU has been stirring this up, by trying to woo the Ukraine over, as already said traditionally part of Russia's buffer zone.

Working towards world peace, my arse!

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

Don't get me wrong I don't condone it ,but playing "devil's advocate", you no my views, he didn't see the invasion of Crimea a encroachment but a reaction too one.

Because as far a he saw it was his anyway. But the west broke the supposed agreement by encouraging it to break away

You are joking?

This article sums it up: extract
"Target Russia

Washington continues to insist that the US BMD deployment across Europe targets possible Iranian missile attacks on Europe. The reality, as Moscow has declared again and again since 2001, when the Bush administration first announced the plan, is to target the only nuclear arsenal on Earth capable of countering a US nuclear attack, namely, Russia’s.

Indeed, BMD was top on the agenda of Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld and George W. Bush from the very first days of the administration in 2001. Six months before the shocking events of September 11, 2001, President Bush delivered a deliberately deceptive speech on why the world needed US BMD systems. The president insisted back then, almost 13 years ago, that the purpose of his commitment to build a US missile shield was not aimed at Russia: “Today's Russia is not our enemy” Bush said. Instead, he insisted, the BMD system was needed only against “terrorists,” against “rogue” nations like Iraq, Iran or North Korea.

In fact, as military experts from Moscow to Beijing to Berlin were quick to point out, no “terrorists” or small rogue state had any such nuclear missile delivery capability. Nor do they have today, according to US intelligence estimates.

Why then is Washington spending tens of billions if not hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars developing its BMD system?

The details of official US military policy reports demonstrated, beyond doubt, that it had been the deliberate and unflinching policy of Washington since the collapse of the Soviet Union to systematically and relentlessly — throughout the administrations of four US Presidents — to pursue nuclear primacy (unilateral assured destruction) and the capacity for absolute, global military dominance, what the Pentagon called Full Spectrum Dominance"

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

Yep, I understand the devil’s advocate bit but not the West’s encouragement – Maidan was an act of the Ukrainian people alone.

The US/EU have performed miserably throughout and have effectively told Putin that he has carte blanche.

Let’s just hope that the cold war doesn’t get any hotter.

Re: Has Russia gone Rogue?

Russia is decaying from within , huge narcotics problem , huge alcohol dependency , corruption at the highest level.

When it all comes tumbling down Vlad and his pals will be safely tucked up in the Kensington Dacha belt.
