Many reported injured in Istanbul shop blast

A large explosion has rocked Istanbul, Turkey's most populous city, leaving many people injured.

Early reports say that the blast, which occurred at the entrance of a shop close to the Zeytinburnu Mithatpasa tramway stop, is the resulted of a suspect gas leak.

Ambulances and fire crews quickly arrived on the scene where they are still battling flames and attending to the wounded.

Re: Many reported injured in Istanbul shop blast

dreadful, many of the injured are in a serious condition
There are far too many explosion like this in Turkey there isn't enough control over working conditions
last month alone 141 workers were killed on the job in Turkey.

Also reported, a gas explosion in Denizli on Friday. Very worrying that such explosions seem to happen so often.

if the government paid as much attention to workers conditions as they do to religion they would save more lives in a year than alcohol kills in a decade

Re: Many reported injured in Istanbul shop blast

Shirleyantr,

Why do you have to bring religion into this. Religion has nothing to do with it and you referring to religion is not fair..............

Saying that the authorities do need to bring Health and Safety in a lot of areas. Some weeks ago I saw a man Welding without Welding goggles !......
This is also to do with people being poorly educated after all it is a 3rd world country trying to get modern.

Re: Many reported injured in Istanbul shop blast

you seem to have a problem with me Haybusa...
why dont you see the comparison i was making instead of immediately defending the indefensible
the government spends more money on religious issues than anything else so its a fair comment ..

We saw one of our workmen cutting through marble with a circular saw wearing only flip flops. Scary stuff.

Where we live the sight of a man wearing welding goggles is rare enough to cause comment. We have a lot of new builds happening here and especially on the commercial premises there are signs galore restricting site access and saying hard hats, goggles etc must be worn. That is as far as it goes unfortunately.

It's not just health and safety at work though. It runs throughout daily lives. Think scooter riders and passengers. Whole families piled on and the only crash helmet between the rider's feet. Car drivers and passengers without seat belts, driver on phone, children and babies in the front unsecured. Drivers without a licence driving unroadworthy cars.

I've seen women wanting to cross a busy road shove pushchairs out into the traffic to stop it.

In many cases there is already legislation in place but until those that are empowered to enforce do so without exception these dangerous practices will continue.
