You asked why Ukraine didn’t lead the call for boycott – I answered you.

(TLF is quiet today – where would it be without us? )

Ukraine warns Irish company about inadmissibility of building LNG terminal in Crimea

The Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland has warned the Irish oil company Petrel Resources about the inadmissibility of building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Russian-occupied Crimea.

"The united endeavors may be seriously undermined if some actors try to circumvent sanctions and to take advantage of the situation to their own benefit and at the expense of others. The Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland believes that Irish nationals and businesses will refrain from illegally visiting Crimea, as well as from any activities in the peninsula in violation of the concerted efforts of the international community, including the EU," reads a statement on the embassy's website. As was earlier reported, The Irish Times wrote about talks between Petrel Resources and Russia's Gazprom on setting up an LNG facility in occupied Crimea.

House may consider new sanctions on Russia

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan on Tuesday said he is willing to consider additional sanctions on Russia, and reiterated his support for U.S. intelligence community findings that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

Speaking to reporters a day after President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ryan said if congressional committees believe further sanctions on Russia are necessary, “I’m more than happy to consider those.”

“Russia is a menacing government that does not share our interests and it does not share our values,” he said.

Even Mitch McConnell the Senate leader has spoken forcefully against Russia, undermining Trumpty, which is amazing in itself as he is the one who refused to join Obama in a bipartisan statement about the Russian interference in the first place.

Re: Russian Sanctions

And I’ve been saying from the start that sanctions should be effective & properly enforced – thus far they haven’t deterred Russia’s aggressive attitude.

If the West is serious then consideration should be given to:

- Cancelling SWIFT
- Cancelling internet access (Russian Internet is poor)
- Appropriating $billions of dirty Russian in British banks (that would alleviate some post-Brexit woes )

This would hit the people at the top rather than the long suffering Russian public.

And I’ve also said from the start that sanctions alone are not enough - the West needs to give more defensive support to threatened nations in Eastern Europe.
