M25 collapsed in the rain

Surely the UK must be able to build things that can withstand the weather - or maybe not! Scary imagine hitting that at 70mph!

There was travel chaos on Britain's busiest motorway today after a section of road appeared to collapse in heavy rain.

Please take care and drive carefully

Re: M25 collapsed in the rain

Poor old M25. Always getting criticized, hated, reviled - even from before it was opened. I'm glad I don't have to use it. But one person thought it was wonderful and loved it. Can you guess who?

Now some people are saying that the road is too small, even that it's a disaster. I must say I can't stand those who carp and criticise when they ought to be congratulating Britain on a magnificent achievement and beating the drum for Britain all over the world.

Re: M25 collapsed in the rain

I used the M25 frequently at one time (not so much now), it does the job but when things go wrong like parts of it collapsing I worry about people on the roads generally. People never know what is ahead of them. Things like this cause accidents and can lead to deaths, always best to remind people that there are hazards. But imho the UK do need to try and ensure things are fit for purpose especially when people are at risk.

Sinkholes seem to be more common as well as defects in roads and these things are a hazard. I ask people to take care on the roads for their own safety.

Re: M25 collapsed in the rain

I think you have to be alert and watch out for hazards as best you can, where ever you are, but some things cannot be anticipated like the bridge that collapsed in Turkey earlier this year.

Istanbul pedestrian bridge collapses after being hit by fuel tanker | Daily Mail Online

I agree Firefox the M25 at certain times of the day is like a massive car park mainly due to the sheer volume of traffic.

Re: M25 collapsed in the rain

This road has taken a huge beating , a load that it was never designed for. An enormous service has just been constructed , heavy machinery and logistic support vehicles have been hammering it 24/7.

All 8 lanes have been drilled for lane closure posts , then heavy concrete shoulder barriers have been used to protect workers in all lanes.

The roads ministry should have radar searched the surface, It is only the top six inches that have crumbled , not the understructure.

I love the M25 , anyone who remembers the north orbital and queuing for hours to hit the one at Denham will adore it as well.

As soon as i see the 25 , from whichever direction , i know i am home.

Great road , fabulous servant to the south east and London.

No other road takes such a pounding.

La peripherique anyone ?

Steve.

Re: M25 collapsed in the rain

The M25 was a substitute for tbe North and South circular roads and Maggies baby. The concept was great but what we ended up with was a great disappointment. I have spent many hours parked out there between junctions. It was always the same streaches that I couldn't avoid. I had my ideas of how it could have been improved but of course no one was listening to me.

Having said that it was realy only at rush hours that it was a problem, other times it was supurb. The biggest problem apart from needing mote lanes was the fact that there were too many junction too close together. Anotber major problem was tbe tolls at the Dartford crossing which should have been scrapped many years ago. Those tunnels and the bridge have been paid for many times over and all the moey has gone to the Kent county council.
