Zero Hours

So they are starting to wake up to the damage that these zero hours contracts are doing? Sports Direct are not even the tip of the iceberg. Its a step back to the good old days but without even the good.

The fundemental flaw in Millibands statement is he isn't considering the future, who in their right mind is going to piss off big business when there might be a lucrative directorship after being knighted for being politician of conviction, the conviction of looking after number 1 and not the conviction many of them deserve.

Re: Zero Hours

I look for the noise to be made louder when people know that something's just don't tally. A more recent issue was clamping down on these payday lenders, ok so the rules do not change to Jan 2015, nonetheless whilst various companies/governments continue to do their deals people should speak up. The sad part about it, before governments actually do anything about issues, the rich have already had the "earner" out of it.

It will give Mr Juncker something to throw back at us.

Re: Zero Hours

I think the labour party were responsible for zero hours. All the super markets are giving most of their staff few hours so that the government (tax payer) tops up their wages to a liveable level !

It was actually the conservatives who passed the 1996 employment rights act that enables employers to offer zero hours contracts.
As for Tesco you are partly correct, but the main reason is the company saves around 11% on staff costs by not having to pay Employers National Insurance contributions, the employee isnt liable either so there is no money going into the pot but plenty being taken out.
