Migrant figures.

I am not going to rant & rave about these figures because we are constantly told "immigration is good for the UK". So if I have to swallow that, has this & successive Governments failed to keep up with the services to cater for these ever growing numbers? Hospitals, schools & of course housing? All I tend to hear about are closures & cut backs on services.

BBC News - Migrant population 'rose 565,000 since 2011'

Shortage of chick sexers in the UK, despite £40,000 salary - Home News - UK - The Independent

I heard this story on the radio the other day including comments about skill/labour shortages in other areas. Could it be that we use migrant workers to do jobs no one else wants to do?

Re: Migrant figures.

The 1951 census was 48,000,000 and now we are told that it is only 54,000,000.

In sixty years the figure has only grown by a little less than 10%. Pull the other leg, it's got bells on.

Re: Migrant figures.

All the websites I've looked at have the UK population at around 64 million.

Re: Migrant figures.

I was watching a programme the other night about sanctioning the unemployed. If you are sent for a job & you are capable of doing it you MUST take the job or face sanctions (monies stopped). These menial jobs in many cases are not even advertised in the UK & that alone creates further woes. Basically these jobs that Brits "will not do" in many cases are not even offered to our own unemployed.
I find it sad & disturbing that the label of "lazy Brits" seems to be phrase of the day. I can only assume that Job Centres either do not have these jobs on their books or they themselves are not doing their own jobs of getting the unemployed in work.

Its not a case of us not doing them, its more of a case of agencies & gang masters having priority.

Re: Migrant figures.

The figures in my post are from the BBC. However I'm sure it's in excess of 80,000,000 at the very least. You have to take into consideration the numbers that don't declare themselves in a census and that number could be anything.

I know the UK is more crowded now than when I was a kid.

Re: Migrant figures.

My partner has been out of work for a few years now, he has trouble finding work due to his age (64) he was made redundant in 2011 and has done a few bits and pieces, not afraid of hard work, (he swept the road in 2012 during the Olympics, but the contract ended at the end of the Paralympics) But to get to my point, there is a huge Asda warehouse near where we live, so he went in there to ask for work. He was told by the Polish lady that they only employed through an agency..........guess where? Yep Poland! I think it's a bloody disgrace that this is allowed. I read that Next also have this practice. I'll have no where to shop soon!

reading the article
"Those who work in the industry are expected to sort as many as 1,000 chicks an hour – between 13 and 20 a minute — and hit 98 per cent accuracy rates over a 12-hour shift, without harming the animals.

But Mr Large said potential employees are discouraged by the three-year training period needed to “develop the sensitivity and dexterity to reliably sex the bird”.

17 chicks each minute, 1020 chicks per hour 12,000 chicks per day fail rate 2%"

In truth I suspect there are 2 scenarios going on. Unemployed not being able to find a job because of the migrant agency thing and unemployed not willing to do menial jobs that don't provide a living wage. Plus in some areas there are genuine labour shortages.
I don't know how anyone can live on the min wage here in the UK.

Exactly, not a job anyone would probably want to do.
