You then put up a link about a Brussels vote, and I had to ask if we had changed tack and were now discussing something different, as I couldn't see its relevance to Brexit and migrants we were currently discussing but now you are saying " Yes I do, the topic is, “migrant quotas " So we have changed tack from Brexit and migrants .... No Camden, it was you debating Brexit, it was me asking what Brexit had to do with migrant quotas!!!!

Re: Migrant quotas

They've tried every way to solve this crisis & it doesn't just involve people from Syria, 2015 it started & now we are in 2020. Still people are drowning & still people are getting through to Med countries, plus by land from Turkey.
A German NGO ship was out in the seas picking up these people and disembarking them in the likes of Greece & Italy. The idea being these refugees/migrants would be dispersed across the EU...…..the problem was, people across the EU felt they had taken their share. The next move by Brussels was to try and force quotas on member states, swiftly followed by the threat of financial penalties for those members who refused.
The EU has continued to put billions into these peoples "starting points", unfortunately, those monies are being dipped.

Re: Migrant quotas

Nigel Farage:

"It is thought that about 300 people made the dangerous journey from Calais in 2018. This year, more than 3,000 have arrived already and that number could be 7,500 by Christmas. Yesterday was another record day as over 200 migrants entered through Dover. We knew they were coming, but started to wonder what happened after they had arrived here.

Several concerned members of the public then contacted me in recent weeks to tell me about what they have described as “strange happenings” at hotels in their areas. So, I went to investigate one such tip-off in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire on Wednesday. What I found what extraordinary. You can see what happened by clicking this link right now.
Figures by Migrationwatch UK show this Conservative government is accomodating 48,000 illegal migrants in hotels and private accommodation, costing the taxpayer up to £4 billion over the next 10 years. That figure could end up being even higher."

Yesterday 202 turned up uninvited on south coast beaches.

First, this was a Farage self promoting publicity stunt ....to get back in the news....with an attempt to make himself relevant again after the failed Brexit Party .... Remember this was the guy who during Brexit talked of a Turkish Invasion which never happened nor likely too ....Ironic though that now his fellow Brexiteers are so desperate for trade deals are in talks with the Turks to allow their citizens easier access.

Two separate issues here, one the crossings, the other asylum seekers.

The crossings I agree should be stopped they are dangerous , and the Tories are failing miserably, but then again it was them through their Austerity cuts that hit the two front line services involved Border Control and Police ....

The Boris promised to increase the Border force to deal with Brexit, but in reality that would have just brought them back to the strength on previous years but with an added workload . They couldn't even do that, it was for over approx 1300 but it ended up with less than 500 and these will have to handle the extra custom duties and formalities ... so putting it in context 2018/19 was still lower than in numbers than 2014/15 .

As for his mention of the 48,000 Asylum Seekers right after speaking of illegal immigrants and illegal crossings is a far right tactic so you automatically correlate both the illegal act , wrongly with the legally sought Asylum seekers within that number, in so demonizing all....

The right to seek asylum is a legal right we all share. It isn’t illegal to seek asylum, because seeking asylum is a legal process.

We don't let these Asylum people work. so if they are destitute and have no other means of supporting themselves only then can they then apply for Asylum support £5.66 per day also support like as in Bromsgrove in Hotels because there is a Pandemic, and should be off the streets to protect both them and us.

Quote:
As explained by Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats spokesperson Sam Evans accused him of whipping up hatred in the local community.

“Whilst we understand concerns about illegal immigration, it is unacceptable that Mr Farage should travel to Bromsgrove to make a video criticising people temporarily housed here for safety reasons due to the pandemic.

“These people are not illegal immigrants and are legitimately housed in our local area whilst awaiting a decision on their status
“Due to UK law they are prohibited from working in the UK.”

“Nigel’s description of one of our hotels as ‘completely taken over’ by migrants is inaccurate and unacceptable.”

Quote:
Even the Tories Dept admit ....The Home Office Dept commented: “We have moved asylum seekers, where necessary to do so, into temporary accommodation to protect them and ensure social distancing.

“This is to help stop the spread of coronavirus in line with public health guidance.

“We would like to acknowledge the work that local authorities have done to support these temporary arrangements.“
Maybe this Government if so concerned should speed up the Asylum Procedure ,now taking more the 6 Months mim ... and take out the economic migrant from the Genuine Asylum seekers .......

The fact that Serco have been given a 10 year contract tends to say Covid will be around for 10 years

Again two separate issues...

The ones housed recently were Asylum seekers classed destitute on the streets or dorm accom who were because of Covid taken off the streets etc so could be socially distanced ....no different than has been done because of covid with the Homeless putting them in hotels for their safety and ours .

The Contracts you mention are for legal Asylum seekers awaiting a judgement on their Asylum .. Asylum Seeker decisions take so long to process min 6 month ...and in that time quite rightly no benefits are given, and we don't allow them to find employment ? So how do they pay for accommodation on free air ?

Before in 2012 it was on the Council to find them a bed ..It was the Tories that decided instead to Outsource to private companies like Serco a firm penalised repeatedly since 2013 for "squalid, unsafe, slum housing conditions” but still awarded new 10 year tenders in 2019 to house awaiting Asylum seekers ...

So look, and ask the Tories why they did this ...and if they are serious on immigration ..... They should stop meddling with the Border force whose morale has been at it lowest after splitting the agency into two asking for savings of 20% and cutting jobs ... slowing down the processes meaning Asylum seeker has to wait longer for them to "cut the wheat the chaff" in true Asylum seekers and economic.

Re: Migrant quotas

I was half-listening to a radio interview last night about the immigration situation in Republic of Ireland: not something I know anything about.

Anyway, this commentator (based in New York, I think) was moaning about towns and village communities "being swamped" by immigration. She said the population is around 4 million, and the Irish Government plans to take another million immigrants on top of what is already there, which (she says of the present influx) is not integrating, and is being resented.
