Re: 1st November Turkish Elections

Erdogan is not part of the elections.

I don't think we'll see much change, maybe a slight increase for MHP or CHP and a slight loss for the HDP.

I don't think the AKP will win the majority seats required to change to a presidential system (only in Turkey could a 'democratically' elected parliament vote themselves out of a job!).

Stalemate methinks.

Re: 1st November Turkish Elections

Erdoğan is IN whether we like it or not. The question is whether the AK parti get the majority vote which I think is very unlikely. I hope the HDP don't fall below the 10% threshold but I do wonder if there will be a loss of votes for them. I think at last people are waking up to the reality that this chaos has been created for political gain. The biggest problem in the future is how the chaos will be contained, or even if it can be.

I think it will be a stalemate as well, just hope the HDP don't get banned before the election.

Re: 1st November Turkish Elections

I'm not a fan of the HDP since Demitas's comment regarding his brother. His brother is a member of the PKK.

HDP leader denies his brother injured in air strikes on PKK in northern Iraq

In a perfect world (in my opinion that is) their votes would be lost to the CHP.

Re: 1st November Turkish Elections

If it even gets to an election.

Because faut avni , the famous tweeting whistleblower ,who has been right on on a number of occasions. Has said Erdogan ,has laid plans to cause more distruption, chaos and provocation in the S/E, then wait for the inevitable reaction ,to then declare it a " civil war" suspend the parliament system and replace it with his long sought after executive style presidential system. As he now see's no other way to get what he wants using the democratic way .

Erdogan did say once, in a infamous qoute “Democracy,” he declared, “is like a tram. You ride it until you arrive at your destination, then you step off.” well it looks like he is ready and preparing to get off .

Re: 1st November Turkish Elections

I do so agree with what you say Bal. We (at home) were discussing the possibility of this last evening. It would get him exactly what he wants without having to worry about anyone else...as in government etc. At this moment I really think this is the most likely scenario. But then where will the country be and how will he contain the chaos?

Re: 1st November Turkish Elections

Yes, Fuat Avni has been right on many occasions, if not all, I think we're already seeing the ground work for what he suggests. Unfortunately this would bring the end to any kind of democracy in Turkey and civil unrest will bring pre-coup era Turkey to life once more.

It would be very very bad for the Turkish people, as the military no longer has any right to protect secularism.
