Simple because I find no other common aim (I am not even 100% sure on that )

Stabiity ... Good luck with that .

You will need a miracle , there is so many competing factors and influences from small players to big hitters ,even allies have competing ideas . Sides and groups change side monthly . You have competing religions , competing regional powers ,Super powers and fading super powers and the insane.

And some people suggest putting NATO troops in the mix ??? A daesh PR dream in recruitment. Madness and a waste of life .

Re: "Boots on the Ground" Syria

The problem with the ME is "friend or foe". Wheeling & dealing between the East/West, a friend who you arm today becomes your foe tomorrow. Easy to say get rid of the arms but the arms industry coupled with the oil industry are what makes this world go round.............love has just become a spin off.

Re: "Boots on the Ground" Syria

Like the west has bases all over the place, Russia has bases in Syria, no news there, they have had them for more than 30 years, but we wouldn't prop up despots, would we? [Don't mention Saudi]

Re: "Boots on the Ground" Syria

The "West " eventually decides that Assad is bad thing. But Russia, who have a vested interest in Syria say that Assad is a good thing.
The "West" supports any army which opposes Assad because they want rid of him, with no thought for the consequences.
ISIS ,born in Iraq move in to Syria filling the void. They subdue the FSA and Al Nusra and take on Assad.
Turkey allows and dupes US to use airbase .
PKK/Iraqi Kurds , an army which has had some success against ISIS, is shown to be the real target for Turkish military because Kurds and ISIS are bad but not as bad as Assad, yet.
Putin says we agree with "West" and think ISIS are bad and must be defeated. Assad is now of secondary importance.
"West " say Mr Putin you are being naughty and must stay out of Syria ( forgetting about the history between Russia and Hafez al Assad) . Although ISIS are a bad thing and millions of Syrians are living and misery it is more important to get rid of Assad and a few bombs dropped by the West's air forces will sort them out.

And round and round we go.

A golden opportunity for the US & Russia to come together & sort IS out.............or continue to short change the rest of the world. For me its IS first, they can bitch about Assad afterwards.

Do you mean with Nato boots on the ground ?

Do you think with the state of relations between the US and Putin this could happen ??

What happens when daesh is defeated . To Assad , in the afterwards ?? It was because there was no plan in place after the downfall of Saddam that this mess occured .

Re: "Boots on the Ground" Syria

America's top diplomat called his Russian counterpart Wednesday to warn that Moscow's military buildup of troops in Syria could escalate the bloody conflict there that has engulfed the region for more than four years.

U.S. warns Russia on military buildup in Syria

The U.S. has been watching Russia's movement of military personnel with concern for several days, though the Foreign Ministry only confirmed the buildup Wednesday.

There are "Russian military experts in Syria who are instructing (the Syrians) on the use of the military systems being delivered" to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a close Moscow ally, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement.

Russia "has long been supplying arms and military equipment to Syria in accordance with bilateral contracts," she said.

That confirmation follows repeated warnings from Secretary of State John Kerry to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about how such activity could intensify the raging civil war there.
