"Boots on the Ground" Syria

Talk of "boots on the ground " in Syria ,looks like they are there already ,just not the ones people expected , are they fighting for the right side or not ??? they are there to prop up ASSAD .

article
These revealing pictures apparently show how Russian troops are already on the ground in Syria as Vladimir Putin allegedly defies the West.

The images showing boots on the ground were originally posted on social media accounts of military personnel, but some were then hastily withdrawn once they began being noticed.

The shocking pictures will be seen as proof that despite official denials from the Russian president Vladimir Putin, he has deployed increasing numbers of troops to help prop up the regime of Syrian premier Bashar Al-Assad.

The pictures will infuriate western leaders who have called for the removal of Assad during the four-year civil war that has devastated the country, forced four million people to flee their homes and led to the terrifying rise of ISIS.
Until recently, this facility was guarded by as few as four Russian military personnel it has been claimed, in stark contrast to the numbers now visible.

well now that is a very difficult question to answer.

Re: "Boots on the Ground" Syria

Does the west really want rid of Assad ?? if so who fills the vacuum ??

Erdogan has been pushing for expansion of the Nato coalition to include getting rid of ASSAD (but more for the Sunni expansion and to curb Kurdish autonomy) with Saudi ,Qatar Sunni backing.

Russia has for a long time strong ties and support, arming of the Kurds as now does the West.

Russia Syria Iran coalition spreading shia expansion to include Iran ,Iraqi ,Syria and influence in Lebanon .

And then we have Daesh in the mix .

Do we really want to send NATO troops into this quagmire ??

Who are these Russian fighters posting pics of themselves in Syria?

They're brandishing guns, smiling and posing in front of posters showing Presidents Assad and Putin. But who exactly are the Russian soldiers and fighters posting pictures of themselves inside Syria?

The presence of Russian soldiers in Syria is nothing new. As long ago as 1971, Moscow leased a small naval installation in the Mediterranean port city of Tartus. But as talk of further Western strikes against Syrian targets increases, there's been intense speculation that Russia will now go beyond just training President Bashar al-Assad's forces. Indeed some people already think there's evidence that Russian troops are fighting on the ground, although there's no hard evidence of that so far.

Now, a series of striking pictures, including selfies that seem to have been posted by Russian troops in Syria, are being shared on Russian social media - and prompting an intense debate.

The solider selfies are being re-shared by Russian opposition activists, in particular the opposition War In Ukraine (WIU) group, which first came to prominence investigating Russia's involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Exactly, but I am sure Tony Blair will have an answer (once USA gives him it, that is).

Uh, a little help here, which is the "right side"?
Is it Turkey bombing the PKK in Northern Iraq while US and UK Special Forces are aiding the Peshmerga in Northern Iraq, the same Peshmerga which have many former and current PKK members? Hmmm, that seems like a f*****-up (FUBAR) situation. Those "boots on the ground" are getting pounded by their "allies" the Turkish Air Force. Puts a fine definition on the term "friendly fire."

Ah, but perhaps they are using "surgical strikes" in their bombing campaigns? That is the equivalent of a brain surgeon using dynamite in an exploratory procedure. Egad!

Removing Assad is the best way to defeat Isil in Syria

"Doing a deal with Russia and Iran could open the way for the West to develop a proper strategy for defeating the extremists"

WHAT!! Doing a deal with "Axis-of-Evil" Iran and the former "Evil Empire" of Russia?

Gadzooks, who comes up with these ideas? You gotta love the entertainment value of politicians trying to look as if they understand what is going on there and that they have a brain.

"According to Downing Street sources, dinner on the final night of the summit at the Bavarian resort of Schloss Elmau was dominated by discussion of the deepening crisis in Syria and Iraq. One of the ideas actively being mooted, apparently, is that Assad will be sent into exile as part of a deal between Russia and the West to combat the rise of Islamic State."

"Several factors explain this sudden change in thinking. The obvious one is the growing realisation that Assad, after his early success in preventing Islamic State (Isil) fighters from penetrating the regime’s Alawite heartland around Damascus, is now very much on the defensive, with reports circulating in the region that the regime could collapse at any minute."

Now why would anyone think a regime chane is going to help the defensive situation that Syrian troops are encountering? This is absurdity heaped upon madness, Lewis Carroll or Tim Burton never had such wild fantasies as this "real life" drama.

So which is the "right side"?

Excerpts follow from a UN report: "al-Assad, ISIL, al-Qaeda committing Mass Atrocities, Endangering Int’l Security"

ISIS/ISIL (Whoever WTF these 6th Century throwbacks call themselves)
"Women have been lashed for not abiding by the dress code decreed by the group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)...children as young as 10 are being recruited and trained at ISIS camps...Journalists and other media workers are systematically targeted. Fridays are regularly marked by executions, amputations and lashings in public squares, the report states. Civilians, including children, are urged to watch. Bodies of those killed are placed on display for several days, terrorizing the local population."

Syrian Forces/Assad
"the Government also commits violations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, with impunity. Between January and July, hundreds of men, women and children were killed every week by the Government’s indiscriminate firing of missiles and barrel bombs into civilian-inhabited areas. In some instances, there is clear evidence that civilian gatherings were deliberately targeted, constituting massacres...Humanitarian aid continued to be obstructed as a weapon of war...detainees were subjected to horrific torture and sexual assault."

AND of course, follow the money, who profits???
"Several States (Israel? USA? UK? It does not say) continue to deliver mass shipments of arms, artillery and aircraft to the Syrian Government, or contribute with logistical and strategic assistance. Meanwhile, other States, organizations and individuals support armed groups with weapons and financial support. The weapons they transfer to the warring parties in Syria are used in the perpetration of war crimes."

" The Commission is recommending the imposition of an arms embargo and called on the international community to curb the proliferation and supply of weapons."

A bit of too little and far too late methinks.

But have no fear of that happening, follow the money, war is profitable and arms merchants and the governments that allow them free rein, are the real war criminals.

Sorry Bal, that is too simplistic, it has moved a long way forward from that. The long term goal has to be stability.
