Surprised? Increased security

Quote:
Hundreds of extra armed officers are to be trained to help counter the threat of a terrorist attack in London, the Metropolitan Police is set to announce.

It comes after Scotland Yard reassessed its ability to stop terrorism and respond to armed attacks in light of last year's deadly attacks in Paris.

Some 600 extra officers are expected to receive firearms training - in addition to 2,000 already trained in London.
Is this another small step towards state control of the population?

I think it's a step to counter terrorism .
Good move to stop Islamic state control of our population.

Re: Surprised? Increased security

If there is one thing that the Americans do in respect of Immigration is to place illegal immigrants / asylum claimers in very large detention ( former Army / Naval ) bases and detain them until they either go home voluntarily or are processed legally into the mainstream community.

You know where they are , they cannot commit crime , it is cheaper than housing them with the attendant costs and benefits.

We still have bases standing empty , if they do not like it then they can bu99er off.

Bases would be utilised , screening can be expeditiously carried out and the case compliant can swiftly be admitted , disease can be controlled , jobs would be created , the mainstream community would feel better served.

Temporary accomodation would be utilised by the indigenous needy not swamped by immigrants.

Those seeking entry would be safely housed , fed and get medical care , kids would be educated , but paradise it would not be.

What do people think ?

thanks

I believe it has more to do with adapting to modern times. The point is as more of these violent criminals flood in to the UK, we are going to have to adapt our policing methods to deal with their brazen use of weapons and failure to comply when challenged. The basic principle of if you have a weapon and fail to drop it when instructed you will be shot dead is a perfectly sound one.

Way to go & very close to what some EU countries were actually contemplating, then stepped in the "not in my name" brigade saying those are internment camps. Of course they are & to be honest, that's what's needed until such times that they can be repatriated. Internment/refugee camps call them what we like but something drastic is needed........instead of meetings after meetings between EU leaders that never seem to come up with anything tangible.

The Isle of Man has been used for internment in both world wars {Yalides relations were banged up here} as we are on our arse financially I would like to offer our services, on a paying guest basis, to accommodate all the Johnny Foreigners you dislike.

Re: Surprised? Increased security

I'm glad to see the ARUs will be increased.
It doesn't mean armed police patrolling the streets, it means armed response police groups being available more quickly. In any case this will be on a voluntary basis, officers will be invited to apply and assessed very carefully before acceptance. Many officers do not want to be armed on a regular basis.

Re: Surprised? Increased security

Is it not time the professionals came to the fore?
The police's record with guns is poor at best, Army pro's on a rotational standby maybe.
Not to make light of this subject but armed crime was very common even in the sixties, let alone the "troubles" time, and yet it was dealt with with less guns than proposed,

This from 1966

Harry Maurice Roberts (born 21 July 1936) is an English career criminal who in 1966 instigated the Shepherd's Bush murders, in which three police officers were shot dead.[4] The killings happened after the plain-clothes officers approached the van in which Roberts and two other men were sitting in Braybrook Street, near Wormwood Scrubs prison in London. Roberts opened fire on the officers when he feared they would discover the firearms his gang were planning to use in an armed robbery. He shot dead two of the officers, while one of his accomplices fatally shot the third.

After Roberts had spent nearly 48 years in jail, in 2014 the Parole Board for England and Wales approved his release, at the age of 78. Having exceeded by far his minimum term of 30 years imprisonment, Roberts was one of the United Kingdom's longest-serving prisoners, remaining in custody from 1966 until his 2014 release.

We have places to house them,Harmondsworth(near Heathrow)Campsfield house(Oxfordshire?) and Yarlswood detention centre, which with Harmondsworth have been set on fire by the inhabitants on several occasions.By the time the do gooders get started these are only short term holding units as they claim it is against their human rights to be held.Simple solution straight on a plane to where they came from,no ifs no buts.

As for arming more police, now let me think, this is a Turkish site yet I have never seen on duty unarmed Turkish police, have they for once got it right.
