Re: A hard year for Turkey.

I fully agree but this does not mean I would travel to any of the ME "hot spots" for a 2 week holiday, most folk would act the same I think and there are plenty who think Turkey is now a "hot spot", not me I hasten to add.

Re: A hard year for Turkey.

Last week after the Istanbul bombing one of the commentators on the BBC said "why would anyone pay to go to Turkey or Egypt ?"
I suppose it's all about risk, I will hardly visit this year as I have other plans, but if that wasn't the case I would probably consider that risk which presumably is what the cruise lines really doing.

I think it would have been a fairer description of the risk to make that comment about Paris which had to major terrorist attacks in the last year. I will be going to France later this year and probably will have to travel via Paris. The terrorist will not stop me going, in fact the only thing that would possibly stop me going is that as a vegetarian it is practically impossible to get a decent meal in a restaurant.
Having spent my teens here whilst the IRA attacks were happening I remember we carried on pretty much as normal and were rightly critical of American tourists who stopped coming to the UK because of it.
Millions of Europeans visit the USA, which I am sure has more random killings than Turkey has due to the ridiculous gun laws in the USA.

Re: A hard year for Turkey.

Very true but there are countries where you could be caught up by fate and other countries where tourists are targeted Egypt has had this for many years now.

Re: A hard year for Turkey.

All fair points for seasoned travellers of a certain age and experience .

If your a mum dad with young kids would you feel the same or would Spain look safer .
Cheaper, closer and have euro medical care.

When Turkey was significantly cheaper it was a pull.
I can see why many people are not even putting Turkey on the radar .
Erdogen may not care as the agean coastline did not vote for him .

Turkey will have to step up if she wants tourists back.
Which I am not convinced about .
