Re: Army Recruitment

Anyone got an Army recruitment office near them or are they not allowed anymore for fear of attacks? I used to know where there was a couple...............gone now.

Nope not thinking of signing up but I look at it like this. If the Army are scared to have recruitment offices here then...............why would you join them?

Some hope they would get citizenship.. the Proud Gurkas had to get a UK celebrity to fight for that right, for them an not till 2009 did they win anything even though they have been fighting for the UK for 200 YEARS , and now still need at least 4 years service SHAME ......

And they have laid down thier lifes for the UK in the fiercest battles and some of the proudest moments in history over the past two centuries.

Re: Army Recruitment

Citizenship? I would give them paint guns & tell them to go play in the park.
Did we not try to train some of these people in the UK a couple of years back.............they got arrested for sex offences.

Re: Army Recruitment

Unfortunately allowing the brave honourable Gorkha's to enter the UK on favourale terms has led to many families in the hillside villages being abandoned by their menfolk.

This was advanced as an argument at the time , for those men who stayed they have distorted local economies severely , and priced many villagers out by lending money and buying up property.

There is no easy answer i am sure , but many people in the villages on the hillsides have a more miserable life because of our largesse.

Surely the forces salary in comparision to local salaries paid to the Gurkas for service to the UK, was having the same affect in distorting the economy and allowing them to buy/build houses and lend money ( and happens the world over when exmigrants/pats with higher salaries have more money than locals ) . But at the time no one suggested not allowing them to join uk forces in conflict.

This couldn't of happened after they left the forces as they were denied full forces pensions and some have been living in poverty .

As for since letting them have citizenship , the menfolk have abandoned thier villages that is really sad , but not a reason to deny citizenship for service to the UK .

I think the call was, good enough to defend the country, die for the country but not to be allowed to live there .

but your right Steve (not meant as a critisim) they most likely have lost more than they have gained in karma, by the UK's kind largesse, and wont realise it till it's to late .

Re: Army Recruitment

The thing, imo, these days about joining the army there is a serious danger they might have to go and fight, and not all ski ing hols in Norway and sunny stints in cypress,

Re: Army Recruitment

We have two children in the armed forces and both have served many times in the bad lands. They earn well, have steady jobs and they both love their life-style. It's not for everyone but if you like the life style, then it's great. They also get lots of training, at no cost to themselves which is good for their future and gives them a little pay rise from time to time.

Re: Army Recruitment

The pay looks ok to me as an officer at Captain/Major rank or a Warrant Officer in the NC ranks you can earn as much as a typical Electrician/Plumber remembering the construction industry is still rated as a more dangerous occupation than the armed forces and your typical Plumber/Electrician wont get a good pension after 22 years or so.
Its a good job that given my time again I would consider.

Army Pay Scales 2015 - 2016 - Armed Forces - British Army Officers Pay Rates - Soldiers rates of pay Other Ranks Pay Rates
