Never mind the Americans, why the hell are the British paying their 2% of GDP & others see fit not to?
Bush, Clinton and Obama raised the same issues, that is how we got to the 2024 agreement.

As for the UK paying its 2%, are you saying that the UK has been shortchanged as well?...... Because how do you explain the Air Force hitching rides with the French when the UK scrapped Nimrod.

Also explain how if 2% was enough, how come its another 2 years before the Uk has another aircraft carrier, and another 2 years plus after that that they get a second.

Re: Nato

It seems thus far that the topic has been exclusively on the subject of contributions.

I wonder if Trumpty will be as outspoken when he meets Putin

Trump says Putin meeting 'may be the easiest of them all'...

Even if it was not about contributions, the US has always been wanted to be the leader of the so called free World, that comes at a price.

Influence is paid for, and the US for years has craved the influence and power that it brings, Trumpty does not understand the basics, we all know that the US does more or less as it pleases, but that has come about because of the influence it carried. Now the US sees itself as not needing anyone else and so the bully tactics will come more to the fore.

Re: Nato

My guess is that Putin (like Kim) will promise Trumpty to toe the line & cross it again 15 minutes later.

Time will tell

Well the Kim meeting turned out to be another "Peace In Our Time" moment as borne out by reports about the recent Pompeo trip.

As for Putin he does not even need to say that he will toe the line, as he has Trumpty just were he wants him

No, but Trump understands figures & its money that makes this world go around.
You said polls in the US show that the Americans are for NATO but what's the actual value of polls? They've been so wrong over the last few years.

What I don't get, the payers & the NATO chief agree about the lack of commitment by others. They might not agree how he's handled it but they do agree about the faults..............but on here its Trumps fault. Should the Brits just keep quiet over the issue?

Trumpty does NOT understand figures, that is why he went bankrupt so many times, even losing money on a casino ffs.

I have not said that its Trumps fault for the others not paying. What I am saying is they have until 2024 to reach 2%, that was the agreement. If he wants to change that then there is a word called negotiation.... which is obviously one Trumpty does not understand, all he knows is bully tactics.

As for Brits keeping quite over the issue, well they have not said anything before have they?,, and they dont seem to be saying a lot now, perhaps because of their own complacency when it was time to replace Nimrod, nuclear subs, aircraft carriers etc.
