So is Trump right on his stance re Germany & Nord Two?

By accepting Nord Stream 2 Europe is placing itself at the mercy of Russia is that such a good idea?

Re: Nato

Countries, like the UK have moved away from Energy self sufficiency, a post war aim, because of the combined defense of NATO to prevent monkey business by Mid East or Eastern energy suppliers, Trumps undependability has punctured that balloon, Brexit will make another hole in it also, scrapping the coalmines, letting Nuclear wither on the vine and squandering the North Sea oil assets has left us in a precarious position.

Germany is for Germany be it in NATO or the EU. The screams that have gone up over NS2 have come from near & far. And yet, this pipeline is considered to be a security threat to the WHOLE of Europe & not just the EU.
TBF you don't have to be a Donald Trump to see what's going on but you do have to be a Donald Trump to get away with saying it. Jeez he was inches away from actually saying that Germany was colluding with Russia IMO.

Re: Nato

UK gets most of its gas from Norway. We import very little from the eastern bloc, actually only 1% from Russia, see link below. The government has made a point of switching suppliers over the last 10 years to reduce our dependency on Russia.
Why not check before spreading gloom and doom? You're like Fraser in Dad's Army.

The UK currently produces enough gas to meet almost half of its needs (43%) from the North Sea and the East Irish Sea. We also import 44% of the gas we use via pipelines from Europe and Norway.

Check what? I said Nord Two was a security threat to the WHOLE of Europe, it matters not where individual countries get their gas from. If Russia turned off the gas supplies AND closed off pipelines that the likes of Gazprom actually owned...........we along with the rest of Europe would be in trouble. For starters industry would just grind to a halt.

Germany for Germany if true, certainly can't be criticised, without the same for Trump who is America First.

In Europe, there is many against NS2 but not for what the Salesman in Chief is against it for.... which is purely rooted in economic interests of the United States and Trump backers involved in liquefied natural gas (LNG) from fracking.

Its economic competition and the buyers Germany must take their own decision as no sanctions on this industry.

It is strange that Trump implied Merkal was so close/ colluding with Putin, as she was the first person Trump asked for her advice on how to "deal" with Putin ... (link below)

I personally am against NS2 .... but our security or Europes is not as compromised as before ........since the new alternative the switching on of Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP ) from Azerbaijan to Europe through Georgia and Turkey putting into operation a gas pipeline that bypasses Russia.

Trump vents at Merkel and asks for advice on Putin

Re: Nato

Seems my reply to your question was unclear to you.

Trump said that Nord Stream 2 jeopardised European energy security.

So my answer is included in your #382 not even any dots to join.

And oil ? how are we for oil ? The point being --- imports, these are subject to political and commercial disruption. Most of our Gas--Norway and Europe[Russia?] amounts to greater than half our needs.
