Some are in Brighton........what’s the trains time table to get back to London?

There's the Supreme Court in London to come yet.

Re: BREXIT - What now ?

Brexit to make everyone poorer except lawyers, confirm lawyers

Lawyers have rejected claims that Brexit will make everyone poorer, saying it’s going tremendously well as far as they’re concerned.

Responding to the news that another legal challenge to the process has been punted up to the Supreme Court, top legal practice Simon, Williams & Williams LLC said they’ll be delighted to keep fighting the good fight for as long as the money keeps on coming.

A spokesman for the firm said it was vital that plaintiffs continue to explore every possible legal avenue to prevent or delay the Brexit process so that they feel their options have been fully explored by a Senior Partner billing at £550 an hour.

“All those so-called ‘experts’ and ‘economists’ saying that everyone will be poorer”, said senior partner S. Williams contemptuously. “What do they know?

“It’s been three years since the vote, and I’ve got a new villa on the Cap d’Antibes. The way things are going, I’ll have that new Aston Martin by the time Article 50 is finally activated.

“All that’s going to happen is we’ll see a rebalancing of the economy towards senior civil law advocates, as that’s clearly where the opportunities lie these days.”

Re: BREXIT - What now ?

An interesting article, food for thought; Be very careful what you wish for!

The most fundamental reason for blaming the Irish government – and, indeed, all of the EU27, the European Parliament and the EU negotiating team – is that the Backstop and what the EU stands to achieve through the Backstop systematically violate basic international law principles of comity. The EU is seeking to establish a relationship with the UK that violates the principles of “sovereign equality” and “reciprocity”.

“Sovereign equality” is the principle that each state has the same legal rights as any other in international law, and has an equal right to supremacy of its government institutions within its own territory. “Reciprocity” is a simpler and equally fundamental concept: in any international obligation the rights and obligations must be mutual. A state should not ask from another what it is unwilling to give itself.

These principles are not minor matters. They are principles which those who make up much of ranks of staunch Remainers would normally hold dear. As a matter of realpolitik, the strongest states have a considerable advantage over the weaker, but these basic principles of international constraint serve as a restraint. Whatever the imbalances of negotiating power, these principles are shields to show when demands are off limits. Without them, international relationships becomes are matter where right is just the word of the strongest.

Re: BREXIT - What now ?

Sometime ago the rules were changed regarding legal aid to dissuade people from appealing against decisions they thought were not ncorrect in employment law etc.
I also believe it became more difficult to get legal aid to appeal benefit claims.
Strange that not only is there ample funds for these appeals they seem to get a court date at the drop of a hat.
In most cases costs follow the decision. On that basis if Boris was proved to have acted unlawfully (yes I know there is an appeal) will he have to stump up costs.
Is there a possibility of appeal to the European Courts?
That is supposed to be humourous before you get excited.

Re: BREXIT - What now ?

I’m quite happy for every avenue to be taken and used by both advocates of leave or remain. At the end of the day it will be back in the electorates hands, hopefully via a GE.
Can’t help but notice that the “people’s vote” has now morphed into being called a second referendum. Some months back those very same people were telling us that a people’s vote wasn’t a second referendum, we all knew different, that again is how some politicians look down on us like we are idiots. We knew the difference because in reality there was no difference, just a play with words that equated to the same outcome.
