Re: Syria

What attitude would we have if the UK announced to the world that we were withdrawing any & all of our forces from Syria? Condemnation from some, relief from families here who have family members serving out there.

Canít open the link for some reason, would a no fly zone make it a level battlefield? Because the Kurds must surely be battle hardened.

Re: Syria

The mixed messages Trump is sending shows a total lack of foreign policy experience. Indecision in this region is perceived as a weakness . He first gives RTE free reign on the telephone .... and then puts up a no fly zone and warns he will obliterate the Turkish Economy .... and this to a supposed ally?

Lira extends slide as Trump threatens to Ďobliterateí Turkeyís economy

From that article I found this:
Defense Ministry says Turkey only NATO country to hold battle against ISIL - Turkey News
Which goes on to say "Turkey's National Defense Ministry on oct. 8 stated that Turkey was the only NATO country to fight against the ISIL terrorist organization."

Hmmm, "fake news"?

For a different viewpoint see in this article...
"Kurds Have Been Preparing for Trump’s Syria Betrayal—With a Vengeance"
what "Abu Mansour, ISIS 'Ambassador' to Turkey" has to say about that
“Ambulances, especially in critical and serious situations, could go straight to the [border] gate,” said Abu Mansour. “Then a Turkish ambulance takes the case to the Turkish hospitals, and it is followed up inside Turkey."

"Abu Mansour said he had “face-to-face meetings with Turkish delegations. Sometimes they represented the intelligence services, sometimes the Turkish army, depending on the issue."

The article author goes on to say "While Turkey continues to claim that the SDF, our strongest ally in fighting ISIS, is a terrorist dominated group, many questions remain about Turkey’s own complicity with ISIS. Given that during a bitterly fought war with ISIS, in which many Kurdish lives were lost, that the SDF managed to take control of the area, institute a functioning political system that included granting an impressive array of minority rights and rights to women"

Re: Syria

Trump Is Fine With Kurds Being Slaughtered Because They Didnít Help The US In WWII

"Trump said, ďThe Kurds are fighting for their land, just so you know. The Kurds are fighting for their land. As somebody wrote in a very powerful article today, they didnít help us in the Second War War, they didnít help us with Normandy, as an example. They mentioned names of different battles, but theyíre there to help us with their land, and thatís a different thing. In addition to that, we have spent tremendous amounts of money on helping the Kurds in terms of ammunition, in terms of weapons, in terms of money, in terms of pay.Ē

Trump is justifying turning our back on our allies in fighting ISIS and letting them get slaughtered because they didnít help us out in World War II, and Trump thinks that supporting the Kurds is too expensive.

It is not a coincidence that Trump is making a move that dictators in Russia, Syria, and Turkey at the expense of those who are fighting for democracy.

The truth is that Trump can give no valid reason for the abandonment of the Kurds. It is what Putin and Erdoğan wanted, and since Trumpís hobby is lying down for dictators, he was happy to oblige

Re: Syria

Coming from a draft dodger that's a bit rich.
In terms of Turkey nothing like a war to appeal to nationalistic ideals and deflect domestic problems.
