Four hundred and twenty million superforce ?

Do be brief , one tank , one armoured personnel carrier , one helicopter , ten staff
Cars for Generals , an office and support staff. Not much left for luncheon vouchers then ?

Bring your own bicycle.

Army ?

That supposed figure was not to build a new army from scratch, the idea is to bring member states resources together.
One pledge/promise/threat that Trump is capable of doing is putting the skids under NATO. I'm sure the American public would agree with him, European funding or lack of has been on the Americans books for the last 5 or 6 Presidents. Indications are that these short changers will "gradually" pay their full membership fee now.
If countries want to hide behind American skirts only to pop out every now & then for a few verbal's aimed at someone, then they must pay for those skirts.

Come on Steve that's how the EU rolls on just about everything.
There's plenty of military kit in Greece what the Germans & French have sold them, not content with selling it they now want to take it under their control.

I have said before, you cant have major foreign policy without the hardware to back it up. I don't know of any country in that position.

Pesco

PESCO is the preliminary act of setting up an EU Army, Navy and Air Force. It stands for Permanent Structured Cooperation.

On Monday, it seems, all member states will be asked to sign up to it. In doing so it will commit them to harmonise all weapons and equipment as well as merging command. This will sit outside NATO, and have a separate command structure to NATO.

An EU force, we are told by Mr Verhofstadt, will rival that of China and USA. Mr Junker has told us that member states will not have a veto on EU foreign policy or the use of such force.

UK is planning to sign this paper. There has been no discussion or debate in Parliament, and the probability is that pro-EU politicians and civil servants had hoped it would go through unnoticed.

Denmark will not sign.

Should UK be involved? Should it supplant NATO in Europe? Why (if UK is leaving) is UK planning to sign this?

Our son, a professional life soldier does not want this and that is why he voted to leave the E.U. Personally, I can't imagine why we would sign up to this when we intend to leave the E.U. !

Re: Pesco

Never going to happen outside of the normal co -operation of countries forces in ongoing and future planned joint operations .

Operative word in dialogue is " could " will the UK join ?

Worth the discussion as that is all it is at the moment .

Re: Pesco

I expect those that want further integration with EU will welcome this. It is, after all, the way the EU is going. I, on the other hand, am fearful of creating a superstate that has global ambitions, especially one that has so little accountability built into its DNA.

German troops being sent into Spain to quieten protests?

I wonder which language they will use to make sure all the forces can talk to each other?
