Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

Every time I spot a article that interests me concerning the NHS, always throws up Bad News for patients. For now I'll just post a précis of the article I saw this morning which led me to this (& several other links):

Company records show very low overall profits for one of the healthcare groups involved however, it's hardly surprising when you see the Obscene size of remuneration packages these jokers are on! Jill Watt's on £1.4 Million pa is only a deputy chair/ceo? I can't remember.... think all this is giving me brain freeze!!!

People are Dying at their hands, unnecessary OP's carried out, inflated invoices submitted..........

"Private Hospital put Patients at High Risk of Harm"

"Potential conflicts of interest and promotional accounts

The number of surgical procedures carried out on NHS patients in the private sector has risen steeply in recent years, from 350,000 in 2012 to 530,000 last year. Department of Health (DoH) accounts show the NHS paid the private sector £8.7bn for services last year, 7.6% of the DoH’s total budget.

Almost half of the patients treated by BMI – whose boss Jill Watts got £1.4 million in pay and benefits in the last financial year – are NHS referrals.

The issues at BMI hospitals raise questions about the extent of oversight of NHS contracts with independent providers. More than one third of the UK’s hip and knee replacements are now carried out in the private sector.

A recent bulletin published by the Royal College of Surgeons highlighted the distinctive risks facing patients being treated in private hospitals compared with the NHS."

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

Privatisation by stealth , and then the NHS will stop providing free care at point of use.

Jeremy Hunt and his Companies will win huge profits as people suffer.

It is the people that Will suffer Steve, JH's dish/pot is a Long way down the food-chain, the Global boyz have this in their pocket!

I recently wrote about my frustration at my son having to push for more medical investigations & was made to wait longer than one would think for potentially life saving Brain Scan. I was so concerned I threatened to pay for it myself, after taking it to the wire & 2 days before private Scan, his GP confirmed a scan date for 2 days after the private scan.

Tumours were found but they say that they are at the moment benign, my son will need regular scans to keep an eye out for any changes. At the time, being the old cynic I've become & because I know the NHS now have a 'Referral Service' (outside source decides if GP recommendations for treatment can go ahead, be postponed or denied!), I was worried that his case was subject to 'budget & Target' constraints of the 'Referral Panel'?

Well, an old cynic I may have become, but then I received a link today that validated my concerns. It affects All of us in the UK, it's draconian & immoral beyond belief!

"GPs are being paid millions to not refer patients for a variety of important tests
In a bid to reduce patient numbers doctors are being deterred from referals
The incentives mostly cover non-urgent referrals but some include cancer tests
Patient groups have deemed the payments 'profoundly wrong'"

"But many Clinical Commissioning Groups have independently drawn up their own cost-saving plans. The Daily Mail found that at one in eight health trusts in England, family doctors are being offered financial incentives to reduce or review their referrals.

Freedom of Information requests were made to all 209 CCGs in England, to find out whether they offer incentives to GPs for cutting referrals. Of the 182 that replied, 15 have schemes which pay doctors money directly for slashing numbers by a certain target."

GPs 'bribed' to NOT send patients for cancer tests | Daily Mail Online

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

PFI has a lot to answer for. Gordon Brown's clever idea that using loans to build and equip hospitals would remove the costs from public accounts and leave interest on the side is tantamount to criminal in my opinion.
A retired nurse on a 5 Live phone-in last week was explaining that nurses and other staff are now hired through PFI too, at a cost of £1600 fees per staff employed.
Who are these bloodsucking leeches?
Why doesn't Parliament get a grip?

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

A gentleman that we know (possible nearly 70 years old) told us yesterday that he has arthritis and his hands are so bad that he needs a certain drug to ease them. However, the cost of these drugs (or tablets?) cost £10,000. per year. The NHS won't provide them but he is able to bear the cost himself, quite easily. So, what about the majority of elderly people who are unable to foot the bill. Tough luck, I guess !

Pfi's were introduced by John Major, but let's not let the facts get in the way of fake news.

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

What is the current position Martin and what would be the position under Labour if they won, as in would the daughter still be up the creek?
