Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

A couple of years ago our neighbour had a hip replacement in a private hospital, which resembled a hotel. She had one of the top surgeons to perform her op' People come from all over the world for his services, I'm told. All this paid for by the NHS. If you know the ropes you can have most procedures done privately but paid for on the NHS. Her stay in the private hospital and the surgeon must have cost the NHS thousands. Is this right ? Would I go down that path if I could ? Yes, I probably would, although not strictly fair.

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

Of course we should continue with overseas aid, maybe it should be directed better. We should also spend more on the NHS and social care whilst integrating them more. Cut the spend on the military to do this and raise corporation tax and increase higher rate tax payers contributions as well.

Foreign aid does no good whatsoever apart from making tree huggers feel good. The problem gets worse every year not better unless, of course, someone can prove otherwise....

NHS operations such as hip/knee_replacements being carried out in private facilities have been common practice for years. The monies the private facilities receive in these instances are no more than what an NHS facility would have received for carrying out the same medical procedure. You will probably find that those NHS ops carried out in private hosps do not require long stay .

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

They're debating the 'Local Gov Finance Settlement Statement' just announced by Sajid Javid, on BBC Parliament.

They are putting another £900 million into the pot over the next 2 years! Peanuts, compared to the Billions of our money they Give away every year! I don't think this will go away anytime soon, I think people have had Enough Austerity enforced upon them when there is Clearly Money in Our Pot, but these prats won't spend it on us!

Why don't they re-introduce a 'Window Tax' for all homes with more that the average home has? And, exclude the payment from any perks, such as MP expenses, etc

Boy, I'm glad I have a busy day today, it will keep me otherwise occupied or I fear I might have a melt-down, such is my disgust with these proposals

By law,the NHS has to provide the necessary care/treatment within a certain fixed time, and if they can't do it in NHS facilities they buy in the op from private providers. (Thank you Labour & T Blair)I know of one man who needed a cataract op and couldn't get it so went to Austria (I think)and paid for it, then claimed the money back, which the NHS reluctantly paid him. Anyone can do this if they can show that the delay is causing problems, but only within EU.

Andrew Neil said today that very little is new money , most had already been awarded and costed so it will make no difference at all.

A Tory MP on Daily Politics today lauded those employers cutting free lunches for workers as this will boost profits and dividends , not a word on the millions spent on the Palace of Westminster and their subsidised restaurants and bars for MP's and Lords etc.
