In Zap we have one of the largest medical universities in E Europe and medical tourism is both legal and encouraged at very low cost.

In some hospitals mostly Indian students hang around the entrance and offer immediate & free ops & won't even accept a tip afterwards.

I've had a couple of very minor procedures carried out by them with no problem at all.

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

Changes to pension rules in 2016 mean rising numbers of consultants are receiving large bills linked to the value of their pension. Some are having to remortgage their homes to pay.............

I wonder if MPs are in this singled out group.

Yes they are because they are also members of a 'statutory scheme' ie; a scheme set up by an act of parliament. However I doubt if very many would be caught out as their years of service don't tend to be as long as NHS consultants, head teachers, senior emergency service personnel, etc, etc.
MPs are so thick about their pension scheme that when there was a vote some years ago to increase the benefits by calculating 40ths of salary instead of 45ths, some actually thought their pension would be reduced.
. . . and they are in charge of making laws. . . ?

I thought the increased tax started at 110,000 whereas the vast majority of MPs don't earn anywhere near that within the scheme. You cant blame the Dr's for moving to private work at weekends where this liability doesn't exist.

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

@ yalimart;
the tax is not just on income, it's also a penalty charge for excess pension contributions above the annual allowance.Problem is that with a statutory scheme the contribution may have to be above the max allowed to fulfill funding requirements.
This mess just shows the complexity of pensions when ignorant politicians let their sticky fingers and political dogma run riot.

Re: NHS & Social Care in Crisis!

@yalimart

As said previously this will catch all high earning members of statutory pension schemes.

Now it's the judges' turn.
