Re: Rail strike outrage.

We are going to Malaga next week and booked the trip to avoid the rail strike. Then they changed days !! So, we have had to book an hotel at Gatwick as we get back rather late.I don't expect to get reimbursed from Southern Rail ! The train tickets were booked too but we were told that they will be O.K. for the next day - hope so. I feel really sorry to people trying to get to work or worse, have an important hospital appointment.

Re: Rail strike outrage.

Well they kept that little Deal quiet!!!

Chinese firm MTR to help operate UK's South West trains franchise

"Mick Cash, general secretary of the RMT, pointed out that the deal would mean about 75% of UK rail routes would soon be operated by state-owned foreign companies, after an Italian state firm took over C2C.

Once again the government has refused to consider the public sector option for a major rail franchise and instead it’s a foreign state operator, in this case the Chinese state, which is set to make a killing at the British taxpayers’ expense,” he said.

That is nothing short of a scandal and reinforces the demand for nationalisation of our rail assets for the benefit of the British passenger and taxpayer. The nonsense is that, with the government triggering article 50 this week, they would be free to ignore EU rail directives that slam a block on public ownership.

“It is, frankly, ludicrous that the Tories are continuing with the ‘any state but the British state’ policy which has plundered our railways for over two decades.”

Re: Rail strike outrage.

Sorry for B-2-B folks.

Who in their right mind would think it's OK to nearly double the salary of the boss of Southern Rail? Talk about taking the P! It's The Banking Scandal All over again!, reward, give massive bonuses to those who cost the Public Purse the most!!!

"Charles Horton’s pay went from £263,000 in the firm’s 2015 financial year to £478,000 in the year to July 2, 2016, despite parent company Govia Thameslink losing more than £15 million."

Pay of Southern rail boss almost doubles to £500k despite strikes and delays*

Just how 'Independent' can this outfit be with Southern Rail boss Charles Horton as a key player????

"A leaked briefing memo from the self-styled “independent” Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) shows that not only is Southern Rail boss Charles Horton a key player in the train-company funded organisation but that they also advocate the sacking of train guards as the way to maximise profits."

Mr Horton certainly has his fingers in some very lucrative pies.......
