What have they to hide ???

The CHP and HDP asked for the debate on the new amendments to the constitution to be televised live, so the people of Turkey could hear what is being proposed and hear the debate for and against.

Would that not of been a transparent and democratic proposal. It was accepted but on the night, the plug was pulled and the debate was blacked out on the TV.

Also, the vote was meant to be open, free and fair. To be left to the individual lawmakers own conscious, a free choice was agreed, so they could vote directly or in a private booth to ensure their own free will .....

But the AKP whip stood with a camera video on the booth filming the voting of his party members and their allies in this venture MHP ...... Surely in any other Democratic country, this would be classed as voter intimidation ..........

It was obvious the AKP/MHP members unhappy with these amendments of increased power to Erdogan, or the lack of proper checks and balances on his power ..... were intimidated by the camera.

Knowing it could be worked out who had defied Erdogan (and the consequences ) by voting against the amendments by elimination of who used the private booth. It wasn't a real free vote, shown by AKP members who avoided the camera not using the booth and went down party lines even though there is known dissent in the ranks ,but not enough to openly defy Erdogan due to intimidation and fear..........

If this can happen to his own in the form of voter intimidation no wonder its easy to use on the public..............

Perhaps the question is what does Baris in Moscow have on Turkish politicians that enable his mate to forge ahead ?

Artee , Baris and Donald , what an unholy Trinity.

Turkish parliament approves articles transferring vast powers to president - POLITICS

The constitutional changes are being approved by AKP and MHP lawmakers as planned.
Nothing (not even a referendum) will stop the executive presidency now because the power is already being transferred!

Re: What have they to hide ???

The new Constitutional changes wanted for so long by Erdogan will now go to referendum in April, mainly due to the errant MHP.

It will certainly be very divisive in the country and has been done without the public hearing or seeing the debate "for" and "against" by their elected representatives due to the ruling parties blackout of hearing or seeing the parliamentary debate .

All that now will be heard, is the one side of the debate that the ruling Parties wants the people to hear ......theirs . It will be constantly shown and heard in Erdogan's own media and on public TV , in a brainwashing of the public till the referendum.

It was approved with a restricted one-sided fight due to seat numbers from the true opposition CHP and what's left of the AKP demonized HDP, but all to no avail due to the nationalist MHP sale of its votes.

We have still to see how or with what, Erdogan bought these MHP votes. As the MHP s were also against an Erdogan executive, only a several months ago ... either the propping up of the ailing MHP leader or Some say it was bought by the promise of the return of capital punishment, long asked for by the MHP in their quest to string up some of their nemesis Kurdish leader's.

Obviously it seems more believable to the gullible MHP that he will follow through, once he has his powers. Time will tell if he pays up in kind ..... The HDP obviously weren't as trusting a while back, with their supposed offer of peace talks and part autonomy for their vote on super Presidency. The HDP who weren't so stupid and knew he wasn't serious and couldn't or wouldn't deliver and would renege once his super Presidency was in place ...................hence his 360% turnaround to approach the nationalists. How could you trust his promises

The fight against the Erdogan package was brought to the floor of the parliament in dramatic terms at times, like when the independent lawmaker Aylin Nazlıaka handcuffed herself to the speaker's microphone in protest of the insistence of the governing party late-night marathon sessions, it's blackout on the public to see the debate on the new laws and the misuse of the secret ballot all to pass its divisive legislation.

Ms. Nazlıaka was surrounded by the women lawmakers of the AKP and physically attacked. The female opposition lawmakers CHP and HDP went to her aid only to be attacked themselves it included a pretty nasty attack on CHP Ms. Şafak Pavey a disabled member were she ended up hospitalized as damage to her prosthetic arm and knocked her to the ground as she also was unsteady because of her prosthetic leg...........

Ms. Pavey was later to say "They attacked us blinded with anger" (AKP Lawmakers ) "This assault will show what they will do to us after if the constitutional package passes "

AKP İstanbul Üsküdar Belediyesi are illegally using Belediye advertising hoardings to propagandize the evet (yes) campaign for the critical referendum on Presidential powers.......

With no complaint or control by the AKP stuffed YSK Supreme Electoral Council with blatant reklams on the Belediye building in flagrant breach anf breaking of election rules ..................

Re: What have they to hide ???

Will there be no papers to give the Hayir (no) campaign side of the argument as the new editor is former editor of Milliyet, Fikret Bila who has in the past had a more Nationalist editorial .... Nationalists are campaigning for the evet (yes) campaign .

Turkey: Erdogan attacks, Hurriyet editor quits

ISTANBUL, FEBRUARY 28 - The editor-in-chief of secular daily Hurriyet, one of the most important in Turkey, Sedat Ergin, will quit on Thursday, local media reported Tuesday. The reports stressed that the decision comes at a very delicate time for Turkish politics - one and a half months from a crucial referendum on the presidential system - and, most of all, after harsh attacks on the paper carried out by President Erdogan over an investigative report published on Saturday on alleged contrasts between part of the armed forces and the government in Ankara.

After a judiciary investigation was opened yesterday, today Erdogan went in public besides army chief of stadd Hulusi Akar, attacking the article and calling it ''indecent''.

Ergin will stay on at Hurriyet as a commentator, sources said. He could be replaced by the former editor of Milliyet, Fikret Bila, who could possibly sponsor a line closer to nationalists. (ANSAmed).
