Integration

I wonder what the Dutch people think about the current protests by Turks in their country, is it a good advert for integration?

Re: Integration

Turks will always be Turks no matter what country they reside in, they take pride in their German or Dutch passport but much more pride in being Turkish.

I suppose that applies to all of us.

I read a tweet from a Dutch politician who basically said, "Erdogan should realise that many of the protesters are Dutch citizens", perhaps he should tell the protesters that.
Maybe the day will come when the EUs headquarters will be moved to Ankara :-)

Re: Integration

Thats what I have always admired in places like London, Amsterdam , Berlin etc were the right to protest is just that a right of all citizens ,and has helped and highlighted many just causes African Apartheid , Palestinian cause, Yazidi plight, Anti War, pro, anti Brexit etc etc to name a few .... of course there has been some not so deserving as this one .... but still that free right to voice your opinion .... True Democracy in action.

Sadly lacking and restricted now by the Governing party in Turkey .So would hate to see that reversal and restriction in Europe of the right of Protest ....

Re: Integration

Integration is a complicated issue

For example the Irish diaspora across the globe both integrates and stays distinct almost simultaneously. I think the key isn't necessarily becoming part of your host nation but genuinely contributing to your host country

Re: Integration

This Allahu Akbar has been hijacked by the likes of these Nazi scum Daesh and associated with thier attacks ......

Also used by people who misunderstand the use, or when trying to portray the worst in all Muslims by linking the phrase portraying them also as radical when its not the case ..

But Allahu Akbar is an Arabic phrase which translates directly as “Allah is Greater” but is often mistranslated in the media as “God is great”.

Arabic for ‘god’ is Allah, whether you are a Christian or a Muslim. It is recited by Muslims and Arabic speaking Orthodox Christians as an expression of their faith

So yes Christians use it as well .......... in the middle east so not a Islamic monopoly on the word. nor used in threat .................. but only being an Arabic word of praise used on many occasions and in many ways ...and not always linked to radical intent but a rallying expression for people of the same faith .

If only in many countries Muslim Christian or otherwise they paid attention to and sorted their social, economic etc etc problems rather than bothering about their superstitions

Thanks for the explanation Bal but what some may think (including me), this was a political protest...........where does God being whatever come into it?
Allahu Akbar may have been hijacked by whoever but this was on a European city street & not in Iraq or Syria etc.

Re: Integration

Never mix politics with religion-lethal cocktail

Good though for keeping the masses in their place

Show me a country which is autocratic, backward in civil war or even starving-and they will be religious
