For me I still love the Alanya area where we bought 12 years ago. We have a pretty good community of mostly Turkish people with only two English families. Learning to a degree the language has made it easier to integrate and we have been made very welcome by our neighbours. It's so nice when you can share a cup of Turkish tea sitting outside relaxing and testing out our language skills. Our Turkish neighbours have minimal English so it is difficult at times but it forces me to learn more Turkish for the 3 months that I'm there every year. One lovely thing is that we do laugh a lot together. The Turks like us also have a great sense of humour. We celebrate with them when there are special things to celebrate and we cook each other food stuff to try out. I often get a special dish presented to me and I'm always willing to try it out. Admittedly my neighbours are not so keen on the English food stuff so I'll make Turkish recipes or middle eastern dishes and I'm pleased to say I've seen them being eaten much to my joy. I also love giving all the sweets out after Byram.
I also find shopping in our area near to Alanya central is a pleasure because the welcome is better than I get in London and I'm not ripped off. Mind you markets are a different ball game but I'm a master at haggling and would quite easily walk away if the price isn't right for me.
Anyway, I haven't got a bad word to say about my life and time in Turkey and won't be leaving any time soon. In fact I'm packing my bags any time. I Love Alanya. It's laid back it's relaxing and sooo enjoyable. .
Well the weather is warming up Shash, they are getting the beaches ready and the holiday makers are starting to arrive now, although most are Russian.Get yourself back here its great.

Re: TLF Name Change

The reason we have sold up after 22 years of owning a property was the cost of insurance for us to have long term holidays in Turkey.
Last year for 22 days cost 750.00. If we wanted to stay above 30 days it became astronomical. With Ann's deteriorating health we decided that Turkey was no longer financially viable for us, it was the sole reason for selling.
We offered it to our son and daughter to continue to use it as a holiday home, but although they love Turkey they didn't want to saddle themselves with the finances of running a holiday home as well as their UK home.
We have had years of pleasure in Turkey, both pre ownership of a home and hotel holidays.
