A Good Lawyer Story

In what seems like a lifetime, I have eventually come to understand the Turkish legal system.
Bit long winded but bear with me. After the usual rogue builder issues that many of us have experienced over the years, we have eventually finalised three of our four cases, some that started back in 2009 and yes - we have got the money to.
After all this time I have a much better understanding of how things work and how lawyers do get a bit tetchy with us, as clients, always demanding answers and results. I never realised that each hearing is generally about 10 minutes, then its a gap of 3 months, then another 10 minute hearing, so on and so on. This explains the sometimes incomprehensible timescale, but this is Turkey and this is their system. After what seems like years, you eventually, hopefully get good news that you have won and the amount of the award is issued. Now, this is where most defeated defendants tend to appeal the verdict, add on anything up to another 2 years for this process. Generally, the appeals court do not like to overturn a district court unless their are very good legal grounds to do so, its just a stalling tactic.
Anyway, after all these years, our lawyer, who I must say has been excellent throughout (bar the odd tetchy moment with me demanding results when he was helpless to give any) he advised me that the money was all in the bailiffs office but he could not retrieve it as he would need our POA to get it. Any doubts I may have had re our lawyer were immediately dispelled as I thought he could have retrieved it himself, this honesty was very refreshing.
Anyway, to cut a long story short. We are now in a much happier place, made much better by a truly good lawyer who has always had our interests at heart and someone I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to take legal action for recovery of what is rightly yours. Beware, be patient, be understanding and above all have faith that justice will prevail.
