Seem to remember being told by "government" that diesel was the way to go, the future, best thing since slice bread type of attitude............turns out they've been killing people by stealth. Fumes of mass destruction.

A 90 Kw Tesla wall might give 1 charge on a small battery but would take 23 hours of full sun to recharge the wall using your 4 Kw Solar PV system IA.

Thanks Martin, I have done the calcs, my invertor is an 8kW one and I would add more panels. In truth sometimes our cars often do not move for 5 days at a time, so charging would not be a problem.
Likewise all the fears of cable size etc, most people do not drive more than 40 miles per day, so charging something like Chevy Bolt would be once every 5 days or so. many people would charge at the workplace.

Re: 2040

Most workplaces in the uk do not have onsite parking , as a union we approached employers to allow cycle ebike charging as part if the government cycle to work scheme , not one agreed to allow officially , however some do on an individual basis , subject to approval of equipment by a qualified electrical engineer. Some turn a blind eye.

Michael Gove has just released an official government artists concept of what a typical car of 2040 will look like...

The future's bright, the future's yellow.

Re: 2040

Maybe the UK government could take a lead here (no pun intended). My suggestion is that inheritance tax could be waved on money dedicated to setting up chargers in the local community dedicated to the donor. E.g. in the local car park etc. I would much rather do this than pay tax to the Govt. Much in the same way that Turks used to establish a public drinking fountain in their memory.
