Re: Partition of India and Pakistan 70 years on

Muslim rulers from the North ruled India for close to a thousand years. In comparison to the UK 89/90 years

As the second religion, the Muslims were minority rulers over the majority, Hindu's , Sikhs etc The Muslim rulers of the time allowed Hindus to hold positions as chief counsellors, governors, rulers of their State, and there were innumerable cases of intermarriage and sharing of customs, traditions, and social progress in an attempt by the Muslims Rulers to assimilate the people of India into a State.

Thier treatment varied over the 1000 years and through the different leaders starting out strict and in constant conflict to keep rebellion at bay whilst the middle Hindus and Muslims remained in a fair and moderate state of peace and growth, due to the abundance of riches of India, but the ending resulting again in conflict.

This abundance of riches was later to be partially stripped an shipped abroad until near exhaustion by the British which created impoverishment, poverty, strife, and resentment between the peoples and religions as they ruled by division to retain power.

I am also sure some good was given, taken and retained by India from British rule.

IMHO the division was wrong and India could have lived with its Muslim population as pre partition days because India has 172million Muslims today and has the third biggest Muslim population that live together .....the division due to partition has caused the conflict between India and Pakistan and hot spots like Kashmir.

Divide and rule was not a mistake, it was a policy; it may have not turned out well, but it was British policy wherever it went to set one tribe against another. It worked for hundreds of years.

As a strategy it goes back to Greek, Roman and Macedonian Empires - probably before that - and it works.

Thank your ancestors for that then, before that India was far from a sh**hole

During this period, India is estimated to have had the largest economy between 1 CE and 1000 CE, controlling between one-third and one-fourth of the world's wealth at the time. After being overtaken by Ming China, India was the second largest economy from 1500 to 1600. After most of the subcontinent was reunited under the Mughal Empire, India returned to being the largest economy by 1700, controlling about a quarter of the world economy, before declining under British rule in the late 18th century.[1][2] According to the Balance of Economic Power, India had the largest and most advanced economy for most of the time span between the 1st century and 18th century, the most of any country for a large part of the last two millennia.[3]

During the Mughal Empire, India was the world leader in manufacturing,[4] producing 25% of the world's industrial output up until the mid-18th century, prior to British rule.[5] Due to its ancient history as a trading zone and later its colonial status, colonial India remained economically integrated with the world, with high levels of trade, investment, and migration,[6] yet India experienced deindustrialization under British rule,[5] with its share of the world economy declining from 24.4% in 1700 to 4.2% in 1950,[7] and its share of global industrial output declining from 25% in 1750 to 2% in 1900.[5]
