Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

Any of those can be of mutual benefit , puffing a fag satisfies only the smoker .

Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

Why are non smokers so bloody rude!!!
Myself and other smokers I know don't STINK, and are always mindful and considerate of others before lighting up.

Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

I smoked for 42 years , gave it up for 11 months once but piled on the weight , so started again
Hated it when the smoking ban came in , I was actually outside on new years eve , the temperature was minus 6 deg , the doorway to the pub was closed over and I was sheltering from the bitterly cold arctic wind on the doorstep
The landlord came out and said I had to move away from the door .....I told him to f**k off , left and never went back
The following weekend we were in Gran Canaria .looked at properties but didn't like it ...............I just hated going out

Then one night I got short of breath , got ambulance and they said it was a chest infection, kept in overnight and went back for 2 days for blood thinning injections , then the 3rd day (8 0 clock at night actually), got short of breath again, ambulance called (took 45 minutes) I just couldn't breathe in properly , I was taking very short gasping breaths
I somehow managed to keep breathing like that for 3 hours 15 minutes , the doctors took x rays and I could see the state of my lungs on them, they were black, all apart from 2 small triangles at the bottom
I thought it was cancer and the doc came and said "we know what it is now , we are going to C Pap you".....this involves strapping on a hard perspex complete face mask with a rubber mouthpiece inside , You have to then breathe out to start it

I looked at Kath and Tracy (who had dashed up from Chester) and resigned myself to dying .............I breathed out and a whooshing sound fired up , the inner rubber mask had what looked like a garage car tyre airline valve in it
It pumped my lungs up and after about 10 minutes I was breathing normally

It was explained to me that I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve (2 of the normal 3 triangular flaps were welded together and round about age 60+ (I was 62)...they tend to calcium up , resulting in them "blowing"....the black lungs were actually filled up with blood and all I had to breathe through were 2 bits the size of 2 styrofoam coffee cups

I spent 3 days in intensive care (where I couldn't smoke even if I wanted to) , the got transferred to a ward , I at that point in time , after being told that my lungs were abnormally clean , decided that for the first time ever, I actually WANTED to stop smoking ............I did 6 days fine , the 7th was the only day I fancied a ciggy , but I said to myself Nah, I'll leave it till tomorrow to have one (I did that for the next 3 weeks, each day (and I had my cigs in my bedside cabinet)all that time , I just went cold Turkey

Interestingly enough, the hospital was giving away freebie nicorette patches and gum (that is the bloody same firm who instigated the word wide smoking ban!!)
It took about 9 months before my taste buds and sense of smell came back ....where before I would have thought that people didn't smell of smoke , now I can smell them a good 8 feet away (and sorry but even to a reformed smoker, it really does smell pretty bad )

Thankfully our granddaughter thinks I now smell like "grandad's aftershave"

Well done Ted for conquering the destructive filthy habit. Most smokers who don't understand the hygiene aspect of the habit and the personal bad smell that it creates can't stand the sight of a used ashtray once they give up. It can only be the addiction which blinds them to what is obvious to non smokers.

It gives one a clue also, the fact that smoking controls your weight. What else is it negatively controling ?

Keep up the good work and live long and healthy and enjoy your grandchildren.

Be a bloody riot Martin. If a Turk cannot destroy an innocents childs life on the beach , what is he free to do ?

A Turk will invent the ashtray next .
