Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

A good idea, it is dangerous to be smoking whilst holding a mobile phone.

Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

Yes indeed

And for dolmus drivers, a cigarette, a mobile phone plus facing the wrong way whilst driving and collecting the fares/ sorting change

Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

And how will it be enforced? The same way they enforce stopping at red lights? at wearing seat belts and crash helmets?

You try shooting a red light in Istanbul Harem, Most of them are fitted with cameras, can't remember what the initials are for the system , scary stuff. As for crash helmets they keep your elbows warm.

Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

There is a very big smoking culture in Turkey. I have observed on many occasions restaurant staff smoking just outside and then going back inside and continuing to handle food without having washed hands.

Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

Isn't that a curtailment of civil liberties? I smoke and do sometimes when I am driving. Okay, I have heard all the arguments about attention deficit when knocking off the ash, but fortunately, I have had my car so long I know it's anatomy without looking.

Which country do we think is going to be brave enough to ban smoking in the open air? One step too many I think given the revenue received by the governments from tax on cigarettes, tobacco, etc.

As to the packaging: that is already in force in the UK. Black packets with the name of the cigarette very small. Most of the space being taken up with the photo "effects" of smoking. Like a throat with a hole in it, etc. Personally, I refuse to use these packets. I kept some of the old packets of my brand and transfer the cigarettes from the black ones into these.

Re: Turkey to outlaw smoking in private cars

In the UK Maisie , smoking in public is not as common as it used to be... pubs and restaurants it is a complete no no.

Some of our local hostelries have banned it from their outside premises , so customers do not have to brave the " aisle of shame " going in and out , they have moved the few smokers to far corners of the car parks.

Smoking is dying out , quicker than smokers .
