Re: Catalan Referendum

You yet again display your ignorance RBH-though sadly only to be expected

Those beaten and attacked at the Civil Rights marches in 1969 were totally unarmed and anti violence

Your lack of knowledge of the matter is no excuse for your scurrilous and inaccurate statement

Keeping on topic the dignified and entirely peaceful conduct of the Catalan people is in stark contrast to the Franco antics of Madrids regime

Re: Catalan Referendum

I remember when all this kicked off Catalan TV pundits & politicans saying that most of Catalonians didn't want independence. Their recent elections seem to show otherwise. Just wondering where Puigdemont stands now on returning to Spain, is he still facing arrest, jail, bail, tagged or will he be allowed to sit in his rightful elected position?

The article states that they will elect Puigdemont as their leader, surely he cant lead Catalan from Brussels? Not sure if Spain still has an arrest warrant out for him, I know the European warrant was cancelled but not sure if there's a Spanish one still live.

Re: Catalan Referendum

Using 700 years of experience I can say the castigating or indeed imprisoning those seeking independence does not have a great track record!!!!

When we had the British govt attempt to say who could or couldn't stand for election the result was a three fold increase for the candidates they tried to ban

Indeed as many Catalan separatists have said, having central govt run by a party with virtually zero representation in the region, imprison the locals leader, is job done for this phase of increasing support

All hell would let loose if the Spanish government arrested him IMO.

Re: Catalan Referendum

Well I can tell you over here during tbe 80s when tne British govt tried the broadcasting ban, then the ban on those with convictions, and then the ban on those currently in prison- SF thought all their Xmases had come at once with support going tbrough the roof

Given that they themselves have been advising and assisting the Catalans for around 3 decades any further draconian moves will be futile

I agree with you entirely and I was staying on topic- both movements are closely linked as regards political contact
