Catalan Referendum

Watching the chaotic and violent scenes in Spain
Surely the government should have allowed the vote to take place and then deal with the consequences.
Repression is not the answer.

Re: Catalan Referendum

Disgusting.
Police using batons and rubber bullets against innocent people attempting to exercise their right to a democratic vote. Scenes more in keeping with General Franco than a modern European country. Shame on the Spanish government for this outrage. If this is what Europe is coming to then I'm glad we are coming out of it.

Re: Catalan Referendum

Yip
Using the state police force to beat people to a pulp for asking for Civil Rights would never be something the British would do........

The struggle for Catalan is a just one and spookily appears in some ways a mirror image of the way in the early days Civil Rights activists here in Belfast/ Derry were treated in a similar way by the British state

Re: Catalan Referendum

Disgusting is the only way to describe Madrids response
If they weren't gonna accept it they could just have ignored it no need to use Franco/ Thatcher tactics

Re: Catalan Referendum

Apparently the events never happened. Spanish PM says "Nothing to see here, move along." Referendum never happened. I expect he will be waiting for instructions from his EU paymasters, who will not want more of this nothingness breaking up their dream.
