Re: Turkish Visas to USA Stopped.

Amid the ongoing visa and arrest crisis between Ankara and Washington, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Oct. 12 that if the U.S. does not accept Turkey the way it is “then we do not need you.”

Calling on Washington to “return to reason,” Erdoğan repeated his claim that it was U.S. Ambassador to Ankara John Bass who prompted the current crisis.

“We are not a tribal state. We are the state of the Republic of Turkey and you will accept it. If you don’t, then sorry but we do not need you,” Erdoğan said, addressing a meeting of provincial governors in the capital Ankara.

“The decision taken by the U.S. Consulate and the statements made after it are not related to the truth or reality. A junta within the American bureaucracy that is related to the previous administration aims to sabotage relations between the new administration and Turkey,” he added......

Re: Turkish Visas to USA Stopped.

Well thinking about it, if a US citizen working in the Turkish Embassy in the US was wanted on terrorism charges, wouldn't the US govt be withn their rights to arrest that person? Likewise if a British citizen working in the Turkish consulate in London.... Imagine if the Turks in retaliation banned all entry to Turkey for US or UK persons as a result...!
That surely would be seem a bit extreme.... But that's what the US ambassador insisted on doing with his suspension of visa processing... So it's a bit crazy, isn't it? Not to mention provacative... and this is an action by a career diplomat- in other words, no oe voted for him....

So definitely there's more to this story in the back channels... Im not one in favour of tit- for -tat retaliation, but .... but RTE implemented a ridiculous protocol in this case that is MOST APPROPRIATE for the ambassadors riduculous move in the first place....

Yet another reason for all Americans to be proud of their State Department...

Unfortunately this is just one's moving of a pawn in a game-plan of many related dimensions...

Re: Turkish Visas to USA Stopped.

Yes, we are all shackled in this slavery- passports are also a courtesy not a right; a 'courtesy' of the state you are shackled to and owned by; once upon a time people roamed freely without the need for the documentation proving one to be a chattel of a state to move from one place to the next. Interstingly, perhaps you may be surprised to learn that use of a passport is not obligatory to cross a border- at times and places the requirement to provide passport, visa, and to have either stamped, is WAIVED. Now days it's just another tool of maintaining your tax liability to the state. Even the 'money' used to pay that liability doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the state....

I must admit, I've always said the same on this one whether it be regarding granting of visas, residency, citizenship or passports.

I certainly value the ease of which these allow me to travel around the world and I have to disagree with McB.
I've never felt that any of these docoments have kept me shackled or owned by the country that have issued them to me.

After my Birth Certificate, I would say that my Passport is the most important
document that I'm ever likely to need. 3rd? Driving Licence.
Nothing much else required to maintain my 'Freedom' is there?

I have no need to take up your invitation McB.

For several years now, normally some time in March, I leave Turkey behind and spend a couple of weeks in Nepal around The Kathmandu Valley. My passport, along with my relevant visa allow me to do this as I remain totally 'unshackled'.

Maybe you should come along and meet some of the 'Stateless' people that are having to make the best of things as they have No Citizenship, No passport, No automatic rights to either Healthcare or Education.
What would these people give to be officially recognised by the documents that we take for granted?

We now see almost 700,000 Rohingya that have left Myanmar with the same problems and equally, even in USA there are thousands of Stateless Persons.

Back on the USA Visa topic that set this thread off.
Two days ago, the American Embassy in Turkey were granting these visas once more to allow people with the correct documentation Freedom of Travel.

What would my friends in Nepal give for such a chance?

To say that anyone is 'shackled' to their country by virtue of Citizenship, Passport or Visa requirements is ludicrous. Only my opinion of course and you are also entitled to your own.
