I agree with the sentiment but expecting a Tory to do anything constructive about it is like expecting my dog to distribute sausages.

Re: Paradise Papers

The thing is, these very wealthy individuals/companies are not actually breaking the law. It's tax evasion that's illegal and, until the law is changed nothing will stop this. I can't see the law changing as these very wealthy people have such power over the government. However, HMRC will have a field day hounding the small folk, like me who have a few quid in Turkey !

Re: Paradise Papers

Hills, that's the issue, it is all facilitated by the wealthy, they make the laws, they benefit from those laws.
They need your taxes so they can spend more money in the private sector which in turn wil likely find its way off shore.
Thing is though Hills you have supported this for years, that's what they rely on.

My fortune was sadly decimated yesterday by a leak, our washing machine packed in, had to buy a new one, looking to lose the VAT and pretend it was supplied by my Luxembourg company that is owned by a holding company in the BVI and flown in via my "business jet" via the I o M.

Last seen at Tory conference unsuccessfully distributing sausages.

On a serious note, the Government is hobbling tax fraud investigators, by employing only 700 staff focused on wealthy individuals whose cases need more intense investigation and are opposed with high paid defence.

Meanwhile 3,800 staff work at the DWPs Fraud and Error Service. Benefit fraud was estimated to cost 1.3 billion.

Tax Evasion was estimated in a report a few years back to cost 4.4 billion a year, and if you add in tax avoidance it puts the total at just over 7 billion a year.

The productivity alone to gain more revenue for the electorate and more importantly for much needed services in austerity Britain is focused on the poorer people in society which although bad have a lower evasion amounts stolen from us.

Re: Paradise Papers

Could we not just pass a law so only poor people have to pay tax?
Oh poop, we dont need to, that is already the case.

Re: Paradise Papers

Putting the individual amounts aside for the moment and bearing in mind the vast majority are legal.

Tax free is available for the smaller saver by way of Isas.

Overall 80bn was subscribed to these tax-free cash or investment accounts in the 12 months to April (2016), also a record.
