Yes, true, but like most governments, "National Security" is the magic phrase that nobody can argue with for fear of being seen as a traitor. It went through in that period of turmoil on a nod, but the architects were more interested in cash; there is no real secret in this drive, the people who pushed it were very clear what they saw as the problem.

Whatever the various motives, we are where we are, so we will just have to see where it leads.

Re: New rental rules for 2018

If what is being said is true then owner with one apartment probably won't find it economic to rent. As well as business set up costs it's saying company tax plus VAT will take 33 to 38% of the income. Add to that extra accountant's fees (they have to do monthly returns of income and expenditure - might struggle with the monthly expenditure info for the accountant as we're not out there every month) of about £500, advertising costs, housekeeping costs, utilities, etc. If prices are increased to help pay for this then with the high flight costs it will deter guests who will go to a different country. Our little apartment brings in 2 to 4 people every week for the season and most guests eat and drink out most nights (oven and hob still like new!), do trips, etc. It will all be lost revenue for the town if we can't make it work. Unfortunately we're pretty well booked for next year so we may have to go through the process for 2018 as we wouldn't want to let guests, mostly repeat guests, down.

The problem you have is if you stop renting after next year then you still have to pay for accountants for the 2 years thereafter to close the `business` down.

Difficult decision.

Re: New rental rules for 2018

I did a quick calculation yesterday and worked out I would need to be charging another £125 per week just to cover these latest costs and that would be with 100% season occupation, I now believe that it will cost more as the Accountants have the owners by the gonads and can pretty much charge what they wish, I certainly don't think they will try to undercut each other, rather they will go the other way collectively.
That and the process becoming ever more onerous I wont miss that side of it.

Renting in the Greek islands and penthouse apartments near Valencia are looking good value for money.

Re: New rental rules for 2018

You and more especially-your recent large wedge -would be most welcome next week for a lads drinkies session.

I would add when I was in Turkey my good mate (74 years old) always blamed me when his wife gave him grief about getting drunk. The wife of a mate going with me next week for a few days tipples-has already told me up front-he shouldn't be getting hammered! Effin unbelievable, I get blamed for everything

As regards rentals it's something I never have nor would get involved with. Too much hassle plus don't like idea of god knows who kipping in my crib

My large wedge is nailed in her purse, my fingers will get nowhere near it, (no double meaning or inuendo there) anyway I'm going up the pub soon if I can empty my piggybank.

We always locked our floor away, so no pervy practices took place in my sack.

Re: New rental rules for 2018

My friend Pat Dudley sadly died 2 years ago. She owned/owns an apartment near mine in Side and so I have been taking on the management of it in her absence. I have rented it out for just 500 TL per month and get paid 6 months up front every time... so that's only 6,000 TL each year or £1,177 a year in UK Pounds.

I had an email yesterday from Kaya Homes who manage Pat's complex at Taurus Apartments, saying that they had received from Manavgat Tax office a notification about payment for rental income of 2014-2015 years. And for Pat's apartment that is rented out now year round, I need to pay 1,191 TL This is 20 % tax from rental income. So, 6,000 TL less 1,191 TL = 4,809 TL as a profit which is equivalent to about £943 Is that correct? x Angela in Side x

Surely you'd be allowed to do your own accounts and a self assessment for the tax office like in the uk. ???? That would save a big part of the cost.
