Re: Your opinion? Hotel booking

My point is that the companies that offer long term health travel cover will accept you with a medical condition and exclude it from the policy. Ordinary holiday insurance isn't set up for the same risks. The l-t-h policies are usually covered by a Lloyds sindicate, not a bog standard insurance co.

I too had a friend who said 'Sod It'. Went to the Caribbean on his honeymoon, about 3 weeks after heart surgery. He was travelling with friends and his wife. Luckily one of the friends (a sister in the NHS) asked him at Gatwick whether he'd got travel insurance. He admitted that he hadn't but that the doctor had told him that he should be fit to travel. Thankfully he then picked up a policy at the airport (although it's not clear what he divulged). Sadly, week later he had a heart attack. He made it to hospital (very basic) and then there ensued a discussion over several days as to what was disclosed and whether he needed to be transferred to the USA. Luckily all was resolved and medi-vacced back to the UK. If he'd had to pay the costs he would have had to sell their house. Silly Boy.

Agreed geraldhyder. A chap we knew had various serious medical issues - didn't bother with insurance - had massive heart attack in Akbuk. Special flight back to the U.K etc. cost him many thousands of pounds !! That's one insurance we wouldnt skip on.

Re: Your opinion? Hotel booking

I would not advise the 'sod it and go anyway' approach. imagine if you are taken ill you may leave someone else with a very difficult decision to make. Do you have to remortgage the house to fund medivac?, or cash in a pension?

You could book it on www.booking.com and that 14 also covers the cost of electricity and water which is very unusual for any hotel in Side to offer that to be included - especially the electricity which can be very expensive if you leave the air conditioning running all day and night. EVERY ROOM HAS A WALK-IN SHOWER!!!

Angela, I do love your posts and Side will never be without tourists whilst you are there. What puzzles me is that you say Hotels in Side charge you water and leccy, I have never heard of that one.
