Your opinion? Hotel booking

I would be interested on others views on this. I cant for the moment go to Turkey due to travel Ins so staying within EU.

Trying to book for Zante and the hotel I like has either baths or showers. I emailed to request a shower but they cannot guarantee it (4 mnths in advance) Emails back & forth but they wont commit but offered to put my name on a list and do their best!
So I have to book, pay for the holiday and could arrive in Zante with no shower...no thanks.

So I phone jet2 and ask about similar for the same Hotel hoping they have some weight to get it confirmed, Now it gets ridiculous, they said on arrival they can have me assessed to see if I warrant a shower....Jeees I am not an invalid I just want a bleedin shower because it is more convenient.

Looking for another Hotel now.

Maybe Greece isn't doing so bad after all when they can turn holiday bookings away.

Re: Your opinion? Hotel booking

Oh Juco, please don't abandon Turkey now - we need you back there! I don't think you have been to Side (pronounced See-Day) have you? It lies between Antalya and Alanya ... both being a one hour's drive but in opposite directions. You would fly into Antalya airport and from there it's a 50-minute drive to Side which has the 2nd longest sandy beach in all of Turkey as well as the very longest promenade in the whole of the Mediterranean.

There are lots of Roman ruins in Side, an active amphitheatre, the Apollo Temple down by the harbour where Anthony and Cleopatra fell in love, lots of shops, bars and restaurants and hotels of all descriptions.

According to the Turkish Government, Side is an "Antiquity City" so no high rise buildings are allowed there. It is so cute with its cobbled streets, great beaches, and most of all - truly genuine lovely people who cannot do enough to help you. My Muslim friends tell me that in the Koran it states that if you help others, especially foreigners, you will get to Heaven that much quicker ... no wonder they are all so helpful eh?!

So, there is a cute little 11 room bed and breakfast place called Antonios Hotel in the heart of Old Town Side with all that has to offer. It is only 14 per person per night bed and breakfast. You could book it on www.booking.com and that 14 also covers the cost of electricity and water which is very unusual for any hotel in Side to offer that to be included - especially the electricity which can be very expensive if you leave the air conditioning running all day and night. EVERY ROOM HAS A WALK-IN SHOWER!!!

Antonios is run by a lovely young Turkish couple who have just had their first baby. The mother speaks no English but the father can speak English quite well. Every evening they put on a buffet dinner - which is optional - and only 8 per person. You can go back and forth to eat as often as you like.

Each of the 11 bedrooms has a double and a single bed as well as 2 balconies ... 1 with a table and 4 chairs on it and the other without. The hotel is extremely well situated for shops, bars, restaurants, the sea, the promenade, Roman ruins, etc... all within a 5 minute walk, if that.

Enough said... whatever you decide to do... I wish you an excellent holiday.

Problem is I had pancreatitis last year (2 episodes) On the 2nd episode they found the cause which was a blocked bile duct, they sorted it and widened the duct so by all accounts it is now free flowing as it should be and they reckon shouldn't have any more issues with it (fingers crossed).
However the travel insurance companies wont insure me because of it but I am hoping after a year they may well do, so I need to remain within the EU so I have medical cover using EHIC.

Re: Your opinion? Hotel booking

I have never seen a hotel room in Turkey without a shower. Personally I would not pay up front anyway, there are lots of hotel rooms available. If you just turn up you will find something to your liking.

Re: Your opinion? Hotel booking

So if you cannot get insurance, don't bother ... we have a friend who had very bad cancer and so could not get any insurance company to cover him for a holiday abroad ... he said Sod It! and went anyway... he had the best holiday ever, he tells me ... that was 12 years ago and just a few months ago he sadly died ... but what wonderful memories he had and if he had waited to get proper insurance, he probably would not have had those experiences... Re: Your opinion? Hotel booking

You are searching for the wrong insurance.

Try googling 'longterm travel health insurance' which will give you different options.

I am ok until Aug then I need to renew the current policy. I will try others again but last year several just point blank refused to insure me for it, mind you I was only out of hospital a couple of months when I applied.
