Because he was an American they invented the term "Anglo Irish" for him, you cannot be a traitor to a country unless you are a citizen of the country, for example should we not have hanged Albert Speer for Treason ? he was as British as Joyce.
They hung him for public satisfaction, no one seemed to mind, not even the Yanks, who, incidentally didnt hang Tokyo rose.

Tokyo Rose ceased to be merely a symbol in September 1945 when Iva Toguri D'Aquino, an American-born Japanese disc jockey for a propagandist radio program attempted to return to the United States. Toguri was accused of being the 'real' Tokyo Rose, arrested, tried, and became the seventh person in U.S. history to be convicted of treason. Toguri's conviction was eventually overturned due to lack of evidence and she was released from prison in 1956, but it was more than 20 years before she received an official presidential pardon for her role in the war

Re: Spying is a deadly game....

On several occasions it is alleged tha Putin backed up his threats to " spies ", many would see this as rough justice .

Once again though we have people and facilities in the UK put potentially at risk , the hospital in Oxford , and part of th city was shut down and isolated whilst decontamination was applied .

Putin may consider his enemies as fair game , he may consider the country using his agents as fair game .

We must bear in mind that this man , if this is his handiwork , is no friend of the people he endangers in the UK.

Re: Spying is a deadly game....

Just another county doing the assassination game in the UK, Israel has had a few, USA, Palestine, Bulgaria all consider the UK as a venue for the cloak and dagger.
But GB ?, well we wouldn't consider assassination on someone else's turf.

Re: Spying is a deadly game....

I wonder why the Russians would want to kill him? They, after all, handed him over to UK 4 years ago in a swap for other spies. If they had a problem why would they let him go?

Doubtless he's been working with British Intelligence for the past four years.

It’s just that in Russia no trial is necessary - faster and a lot cheaper!

Reports are that in this fellas case he did have a trial in Russia & got sentenced to thirteen years. Only released via swop shop.

But no death sentence until later after the swap.
