Dooms day clock?

Let me say I have never wanted so badly to be wrong about something in my whole life

My main circle of friends are all business owners, upper management, finance in the city etc. As said my wifes company deals mainly with world trade negotiations. One of her recent jobs was the world economics summit in Davos

The feed back at that level RE UK post Brexit has been grim

But perhaps they are all wrong. I sincerely hope so.

When I listen to pro Brexit argument (and i do try and listen) its all generic complaints about immigrants, sovereignty, federal Europe etc. all solid concerns but not one shred of positive detail about how anything will actualy change for the better post Brexit. And I have never listened to positive spin from anyone who's dealing with a UK based business that will be affected by import and export tariffs and labour issues.

Business leaders who are pro Brexit (Like Dyson) will benefit hugely as their companies manufacture off shore and already pay import duties and export duties so it will bring their direct competition into line and increase their profits. They are ahead of the game as competitors scramble to move manufacturing packaging and distribution into the EU zone.

You might not feel too sorry for one of my friends who's gutted as he just spent 20 mill on a house in Virginia Water and now is trying to sell into a falling London property market as hes moving his entire production to Norway.

You may feel sorry for the 600 people hes laying off in the UK to make that happen

Nissan Sunderland threatened to leave which would have been devastating for local employment and associated business so apparently the UK Govt gave them a 10 year tax & NI break and a lump sum to help with the Brexit transition in a package rumoured to be worth over a billion? All in the attempt to save 20,000 jobs in house and in related support services.

Now every other big manufacture is looking for the same deal. Hell, even Scotland said if Nissan get a bribe to stay in so should we???

That's you and me paying for that in tax

SO forgive me but dooms day clock seem appropriate.

Re: Countdown Timer For Brexit

There seem to be a lot of answers to questions that have not been asked on the thread. Obviously, if you are looking at Doomsday or Freedom, the clock is counting down on either perspective.

I'm sure your same friend has had sleepless nights worrying about the people in the North East for the last 20 years.........doubt it though.
