Re: Spying is a very dangerous game.

I think no one has denied that we like the Russians are up to nefarious deeds abroad ,as are most Governments around the world .

And when it comes to Skirpal himself once an exRussian Gru agent sympathy quite rightly wanes (although still in his case an attempted murder on British soil by a foreign power ) Yes he knew the risks on defection so like you said no innocent abroad ,but that said should we class all foreign defectors to the Uk bad? (Some information given helps our country ) Some defectors just hate the ideology they live under or prefer another e.g. A North Korean

It's the true innocents, that have been somewhat forgotten in this Russian attempted kill. Like Yulia Skirpal and the other collateral damage innocents like Charlie Rowely now struggling with meningitis due to the novichok damaging his immune system and the murder of a Uk citizen Dawn Sturgess.

Maybe just some "homeless person" in Putin's eyes but someone's family member to others.

So yes, others do it and they should be brought to book and scrutinised like you said ,when illegal actions happen but the same should be pointed out and shown about the Russians as they do not themselves have a system that scrutinise their operatives actions but condone them unless caught.

We are quick to condem the authorities in defence of these Russian suspects with some even defending Russian policy itself repeating the same blatant lies and propaganda they have used in disinformation ,or the ever changing theories from the likes of self promoting bitter ex career civil servants sacked from our own civil service implying our own authorities conivence. Yes we quite rightly we ask for evidence ( due to history ) before believing. But we use the double standard with no burden of truth applied on knowing the Russians history of extra judicial killings or blatant lying and propaganda . Over our own Authorities .

This morning news breaks that a Russian official involved with the investigation into Salisbury has died in a 'mysterious' helicopter crash.

Re: Spying is a very dangerous game.

"Western spy services are no better than the bungling Russians at Salisbury, and all agencies repeatedly fail to learn the lessons of the past, a panel of espionage experts has said.

The former MI5 officer Annie Machon said the “hysteria” over Russia was disingenuous when British and American intelligence services had been guilty of similarly bad behaviour.

“The Snowden disclosures were only five years ago showing, indeed, our intelligence services were doing the same things as the rest of the world and for us to clutch our pearls and say: ‘Oh my God, the Russians are bad and we’re good’ is I think slightly disingenuous,” Machon said on Monday."

Re: Spying is a very dangerous game.

At last! There are glimmers of hope that the mass controlled media are beginning to wake up and are starting to ask pertinent questions that they should have done from the start of this hoax.

Following from the above Guardian article, below is one from The Independent(!).

"I am in the UK, a British citizen and a UK journalist, and I find the evidence and the explanations so far offered by our own side in what is becoming an all-out information war both deficient and scandalously short on credibility – and so, I suggest, should you."

This real journalist is certainly not mincing her words.

Re: Spying is a very dangerous game.

Bless you Rose, your posts always perk me up - it’s true that laughter is the best medicine.

And whilst the MSM may not be perfect I do rate it somewhat higher than either Pravda or Mary Dejevsky – no doubt the fact that she has a Russian name is purely coincidental.

Imo Bellingcat, HMG, Mi5, Mi6, CIA etc have proven Russian complicity beyond any doubt, the only doubt remaining is what now?

And if Russia denies it then that is even further confirmation of guilt

Re: Spying is a very dangerous game.

Still flogging that old horse Rose ? I suppose if your the type that needs
the occasional dose of Conspiracy theory, well who better to supply it , than a self confessed Kook Irish born journalist Mary Dejevsk. Often known to take a line many of us would view as sympathetic to the current regime in Russia and makes makes her the ideal 'Enfant terrible' guest for the Russian Government funded RT propaganda channel.

The often maligned MSN (unless sporting the conspiracy theorists narrative ) the Guardian and the Independent often give voice to Dejevsk controversial views like when she promoted the Edward Epstein theory that the Russian dissident Livtvenko actually poisoned Himself , and she was quite happy to promote the theory without proof that the Uk security forces killed lady Diane. It seems though when it comes to Russian misdeeds the evidence laid out doesn't count again the great double standard in action again.

Re: Spying is a very dangerous game.

The usually boisterous Russian UK ambassador was a little more subdued and lost for answers especially so when asked by a reporter on the Russian GRU men caught in Holland with a bunch of hacking equipment.

He said the four Russian agents caught allegedly trying to hack the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague were, in fact, just diplomats in the country to work on the embassy's communications and IT systems.

"They came to Netherlands with a routine mission to the embassy to support technically the embassy and to check the communications line of the embassy for security reasons," he said.

But when the reporter asked the Russian Ambassador "Why then did they have onward train tickets to Switzerland and onward reservations to a then, home of another OPCW laboratory?" The Ambassador minders moved him on with the reporter continuing to ask the question and the Ambassador failing to answer even though within inches away ...
