Perhaps the law should be amended across the UK so that anyone guilty of rape which results in a child should be required to support the child financially up to age 21by compulsory deductions from income and/or a charge on assets.

In my book anyone convicted of rape would be rendered physically unable to commit a repeat offence. . .

For your next online shopping trip here are 10 anti-rape devices.

Snag is, there are more than a few who have been falsely accused [ I know of two personally] and wrongly convicted, hate to see someone telling them "sorry we cut your nuts off in error".

There are plenty of Birching fansover here, who reckon they aint getting a fair crack of the whip
Tis more a Methodist' " thou shalt not have pleasure so as to please the Lord" kind of place, the Catholic church is viewed as more Liberal.

Be careful what you say on religion if in Ireland Akasya, as it seems this enlightened Isle, beautiful as it may be, still has the law of Blasphemy, one of only a few European nations that still have this archaic law.
Really if these nations wish to become part of the 21st century they need to reaffirm that those debating ideas, or even criticising religions, is not equivalent to inciting hatred, and women have the right to own and decide what happens with their body, not the State or a religion. All power to the "yes" voters in ridding the "abortion law" and next on the list should be the defamation Blasphemy law...

Re: Éire Medieval Abortion Law

Maybe if youu stay on topic ( blasphemy laws?????) or address your own countries problems on the religious issues-the British at some stage will separate religion and state.....even a Catholic PM is problematic for their sectarian laws

Head of state must be a prod- now that IS medieval

Meanwhile back on topic- Whilst the latest polls are quite close- esp because of the undecideds- I am confident Europe's fastest growing economy and leader in minority rights will get this right.

Re: Éire Medieval Abortion Law

It's been reported today, that the HSE [health service] have spent over 300 million euro on legal fees in the last 10 years. It is amazing how much money has been wasted that could and should have been spent on health care.
With an antiquated health system, many hospitals run by religious institutes.
Ironically, many nurses come from all over the world to be trained here - then due to very poor wages, they leave for other Countries where they can earn a half decent wage
The 300 million figure includes my case, which is still running after 9 years. I expect the figure would be a lot lower if my case was excluded! I cant discuss it as it is a family law case. Those that know us know just what length's the HSE go to avoid being sued.

Re: Éire Medieval Abortion Law

The health service- like some other state institutions- including education and infrastructure- is in a mess- hence new radical thinking and political leadership required. Add to that the Gardai needs complete overhaul too.

Exciting times ahead on this wee isle

Slightly off topic but watch for unthinkable political marriage of convenience possibilities......after the referendum is over

Many woman use an English address when having an abortion as they feel safer.
In a Country where it is still frowned upon in some area's when getting the pill or other contraception, unwanted pregnancies are at a higher level then many other Countries.
The old joke goes - They're trying to bring up the standard of health care for mothers, up to the level of third world Countries!
