Tues & Wed 12th & 13th June

On Tuesday, if the papers and news media are to be believed, we will see the beginning of what might be a momentous series of events. It will be wall-to-wall TV for me.
Mr Trump and Mr Kim will kick it off in the eastern time zone; The Lord´s amendments will go back to the House of Commons; Aaron Banks is giving evidence to a select committee. Each one has political dynamite rigged for lighting the touch paper.

Trump & Kim could either avert or speed a catastrophe in The East; If amendments are forced upon Mrs May it could bring the government down, of at least have huge political ramifications that could last decades. It could be the end of her whatever the outcome as her weakness as a PM comes home to roost.

Aaron Banks is being brought before a committee in an attempt to score political points, but they could get more than they are bargaining for; he is not known for giving respect to self-serving politicians, especially when they are out to get him. This will probably be the best show of the day.

Re: Tues & Wed 12th & 13th June

Parliament is becoming rather too Orwellian for my liking, Ian.

I watched a debate about if select committee's power have (or should have)to force ordinary citizens to appear before them. The usual suspects made sure they were there to throw their tuppence worth into the pot, Benn the junior (in every sense) was vocal....

They seem to be trying to gain the same legal rights as our courts have to subpoena people & hold them in contempt!

I'll watch their deliberations with interest....

"Conservative MP Damian Collins, chair of the Digital, Culture Media & Sport Committee, has tabled a motion to summon the former campaign director of Vote Leave to attend a committee session.

He says that "this is the first time since 1920 that a motion of this kind has been put before the House."

Dominic Cummings has previously declined to appear before the committee for its inquiry into "fake news," which has been pursuing allegations around misuse of data during the 2016 EU referendum.

Mr Collins has previously said that he's "made repeated, reasonable requests for [Mr Cummings] to appear, but so far he has refused to do this".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-p...ments-44357833

This copy of correspondence, is worthy of a special of Yes Minister! I'll leave you to read the rest & just copy over the 'PS' LOL! And we actually Pay these 'people' very high salary's .............

"Ps. If you’re running an inquiry on fake news, it would be better to stop spreading fake news yourselves and to correct your errors when made aware of them. If you’re running an inquiry on issues entangled with technologies, it would be better to provide yourself with technological expertise so you avoid spreading false memes. E.g your recent letter to Facebook asked them to explain to you the operational decision-making of Vote Leave. This is a meaningless question which it is impossible for Facebook to answer and could only be asked by people who do not understand the technology they are investigating."

Re: Tues & Wed 12th & 13th June

Just a quickie, no time to elaborate at the mo.

Bank's more than held his own this morning imo. Had to laugh when he & sidekick pointed out that the Chair had received freebie tickets to watch Chelsea, owned by Abramovich........... & that Gideon Osborne is now employed by another Russian.... oh, the irony...........

I watched most of the debate in Parliament today, but now I'm keeping up with the voting via this link, some of you might be interested in: I can' remember how many 'Lords' amendments they're voting on.

He’s in our local paper having his picture taken with 2 DUP men

Why anyone would think he’s a sleazy schister is beyond me.....

I watched a bit of it, reminded me of Mark Zuckerberg with his "grilling's". Used & abused them.
FFS of course Banks has had contacts with Russians, he's bloody married to one & has five kids.............how did he get the kids without Russian contact? Something on the door nob maybe?

Re: Tues & Wed 12th & 13th June

Some of the pundits are saying we have seen the beginning of the end for Brexit tonight. Then, as the evening went on, the anger of the Brexit MPs was mounting; the suggestion was that instead of the end of Brexit, it could be the final straw which will make them boot Theresa the Appeaser out.

Watched the Bank´s performance. He was on Nigel´s radio show the night before rehearsing, but on the day the unscripted bit was when he got up to leave the Committee telling them he had a more important lunch appointment, and he had given them all the time he was going to. When he was asked meekly if he would give them a few more minutes, he just said "No" and went to the bar to meet some MPs.

Re: Tues & Wed 12th & 13th June

His " important" lunch appointment was with Sammy Wilson a gormless crass Dup Mp and his colleague Ian Paisley junior.

If one rates people by the company they keep it speaks volumes about Banks

Re: Tues & Wed 12th & 13th June

I don´t think Banks cares much what people think of him or the company he keeps. He treated that committee with the contempt it deserved, and the early leaving was clearly to show them how unimportant they are - and they hated it.
