You've got to be kidding. They (middle eastern, eastern European, Somalian and the list goes on are having kids like there's no tomorrow. It may possibly outweigh the amount that catholics and Jewish have. Bring our retirement age down and let our own young pepole get on with working and paying into a pension pot. Don't listen to all that propaganda they spout about the British won't work. We've all been sold up the proverbial swanny

So we know all the causes or at least we think we do, so where's the next ship going to dock? Can we imagine 600 homeless people being off loaded in Dover?

Re: Valencia to the rescue

Very easy for France to condemn Italy but any country with a coast could've taken this ship in, which obviously includes France.
There was a comment left on this article, its only a comment but could have some truth in it.

"This morning Mr Macron defined the closure of Italian ports to the ship Aquarius “a cynical and irresponsible action” by Italy.
In the very same minutes, the president of the Corsica executive Council Gille Simeoni declared in an interview with Liberation the willingness to welcome the Aquarius into a port of Corsica.
Ms Simeoni did not have time to make such a statement, that the French State Secretary for European Affairs, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, hastened to deny the availability of Corsica ports, specifying “International law says they (migrants) have to head for the safer and closer harbor, and Corsica is neither closer nor safer, given the position of the ship between Italy and Malta”: practically washing his hands of the affair, as did Pontius Pilate in other circumstances.
At this point the EU, which has so much praised Spain for its generosity (Valencia is neither closer nor safer than Malta, according to Mr Lemoyne’s criteria), will somehow censure France for the closure of Corsica ports?
And will Macon consider his undersecretary Lemoyne “cynical and irresponsible” for his denial of solidarity?"

Re: Valencia to the rescue

It was reported that most of the immigrants were first taken aboard Italian naval ships and transferred to the subsequent on the high seas .

So Italy should have been the Sovereign state of first instance .

Re: Valencia to the rescue

The Spanish govt- and new PM in particular- has acted honourably in this saga

I do agree however that yet again the protocols seem to have been ignored as to who had ( initial) responsibility.

Don't want to turn this into another god awful Brexit debate BUT those averse to the EU have often rightly highlighted this weakness within EU policy towards immigrants

Re: Valencia to the rescue

I'm not sure under whose/what laws these naval ships are operating under. Surely if it was a case of what you pick up is your responsibility ie country of naval ship, if that be the case, would countries consider withdrawing their ships from the area?
Noted this morning an Italian ship has docked in Sicily carrying around 900 refugees/migrants.
So in 24 hours approximately 1,500 people have landed in the EU, thats apart from the unknowns...............
Yesterday the German government ie Ms Merkel was supposed to announce a "master plan" over immigration but its now been put on hold..............beware of German master plans.
