When I heard last there was a desperate shortage of housing in the UK....

Personally I do not take part in political discussions, but I am concerned about the status of the homeless.
When you consider just how many legal & illegal immigrants are being housed that then explains WHY there are not enough social housing properties available for British nationals to occupy, Plus a lot of homelessness is by design and not a act of fate.

Re: Can't do right for doing wrong

Sounds like you are blaming homelessness on immigrants and the homeless themselves, no Government responsibility do you reckon?

Re: Can't do right for doing wrong

Government take it upon themselves to house our unwanted.

Some homeless people stay homeless by choice, according to a TV documentary programme some time ago.

But many make themselves homeless by their uncouth an anti-social behaviour.

Your assuming the government is even faintly interested in the problem.

Using the "affordable housing" con the government make stacks of money out of developers and landlords

if they actualy had to buy a building, pay for conversion, provide staff, meet their own housing standards etc it would cost them millions

Dont kid yourself this is a real problem for the government. Its just a money pit they are not prepared to dig. Everything else is mere deflection away from the real isues.

Well for a start it would likely cost six figures to bring it up to minimum rental EPC standards

And I assume its a listed building so any repairs and maintenance would be very very expensive. Its likely the wiring wouldn't pass the minimum standards, the heating would be a nightmare and the damage to the property required to install the fire alarm systems and emergency exits and lighting would most likely cost as much as the house

Their own fault then as well as the immigrants ?

It's a good job that uncouth and anti-social postings on TLF don't make people homeless.

Re: Can't do right for doing wrong

Our local largest employer , two adults working full time would not take home enough to rent a one bed flat around here , let alone eat and everything else .

Hundreds of thousands are being evicted as benefit cuts bite drastically , they are being forced onto the streets or if lucky temporary accomodation if they have young kids .

If the private builders hoard land and do not build sufficient then the government must step in and build .

100 billion to get to and from Brum 15 minutes quicker whilst families live on the streets or in temporary accommodation .

Scandalous .
