I know it may seem strange, but why not move north? Prices in Newcastle and even in the midlands are vastly cheaper, and so are the rentals.

This today , woman and baby living in container...

Move north , no work mate , rip kids out of school , lose any family support . Rents lower and so are earnings , problem is country wide .

Start all over again with social services or benefits ?

Re: Can't do right for doing wrong

Well, all that is enough to convince me ( not that I needed any convincing) that home is definitely not the UK. I cannot see any reason for returning " for health reasons ", "Grandchildren" ( I do have them ) or because I need some sort of support, it's just so sad to hear how bad things have become. xx

Steve can you explain why it would help building new houses in an area where the tenants already cant afford the rent and have been evicted?

New build is VERY expensive. Even working on marginal sub 5% returns the rents will be high

Old housing stock is the best bet by far for affordable rentals

I have a one bed flat I baught several years ago for 40,000. I rent it for 450 pcm I am clearing a net 13.5% grose and net easy 8%

I had it valued for re-mortgage at 120,000, so if I baught it today as a rental investment and wanted to clear a modest 5%, id need to be charging about 9600 a year in rent or 800 a month

Its simple math. New housing stock (even so called affordable housing) is not a good investment for social housing rental.

Not so Chasey. In Worthing, for instance, we are to house 10 refugee families (how large they are they do not tell us !) We are told by our council they are to have their own front doors & will be entitled to all benefits. Tell that to families that have been waiting for decent housing for years ! Another thing, refugees are supposed to stay in the first safe country they arrive at. It certainly would not be the U.K.!!

Chronic under build for a decade , creates a shortage of the right type of housing stock . A sufficiency build programme would create work , put money into the economy , and lessen demand , rents would fall as would prices and mortgages .

Letting for profit landlords is an investment , they must face the fact that sometimes investments do not always pay off .

The government must fund councils to eenable them to build appropriate homes for families to live in .
