In Blackburn Lancashire there are currently 2350 empty houses (population c150 000), why are we talking about the need to build? I am sure it is similar in other towns.

A mixture of owners, as stated in the article the council has started compulsory purchases on the worst ones, then they will be sold to be developed ( I think with clauses to ensure affordable housing). This was behind my earlier post suggesting that people move north if they cannot afford housing.

I wonder if these empty properties will again be sold off on the 1 scheme as with the likes of ' I think in Liverpool'
