Turkey V Cyprus.

As the sabre rattling starts, what would occur if the solids hit the Klima?
If Turkey, a NATO member, but not a EU member, takes action directed at Cyprus which is a EU member, but not a NATO member ?
Who would the European parliament members support? it's EU partner or it's NATO member?

Re: Turkey V Cyprus.

Brussels would have to back Cyprus BUT then sling a few billion Euros to Turkey IMO. Then again, Cyprus will do as its told by Brussels, Turkey will not.

True Chips... but Erdogan couldn't/wouldn't back down for billions forever, if at all ,he is and depends on Nationalist backing and land ( sea shelf) to Turks and the MHP is sacred a red line a little behind the feeling of elderly Greek/Cypriots.

Re: Turkey V Cyprus.

It could be a messy affair, much dependent on the nationality of the Oil [there's that word again] companies involved. Israel is trying to horn in as well, there could be a big storm a-coming IMHO.

Don't forget 2 RAF Akrotiri and Dhekelia bases in Cyprus

Could give May her Maggie Thatcher moment and the UK would be supported by the Donald this time around

Re: Turkey V Cyprus.

Turkey is in the Lira seats in that neck of the woods, they've proven that to the EU already. When has Erdogan ever listened/bothered about Brussels? Just keep sending him the cheques.

Re: Turkey V Cyprus.

For the Optimists it could just be Erdogan playing hardball in front of the Turkish public.... He knows EU is eyeing Cyprus as a future energy hub, giving Europe access to gas deposits from the eastern Mediterranean. Deposits which could be piped to mainland Europe giving the EU less reliance on Russian energy.

Erdogan's Turkey is in the same position with 55% percent of its gas reliance on Russia the rest from unstable rival US sanctioned Iran .

With Turkey's Russian relations cooling over Syria and Idlib and relations with the EU needing mending. Erdogan's never been known for his subtle approach to diplomacy and foreign policy but to act from strength and pressure yourself into a deal with threats, this could be his route to break into this deal, especially with The Greek Cypriots needing the revenue to payback Russia's financial help during the crisis .
