Christmas Markets.

Just wondering if there are any GOOD Christmas Markets in your region this year, that are worth a visit.

As we now live in Bulgaria, close to the Turkish Border, there no real good ones close to us. Our friends were asking, as they are thinking of travelling to Budapest (Hungary) to the large one there. Just wondering if entering Turkey gave them any other options..??

Re: Christmas Markets.

As you know Turkey does not celebrate Christmas per se. You may want to look at this the International Women of Istanbul winter fair. I attended a few when I worked in Istanbul, there are often delicacies from Scandinavia. Some of the food is good too!

Re: Christmas Markets.

There is a similar Christmas bazaar in Sofia on the 2nd of December run by the International Women's Club.
Might be worth looking around for cheap flights to Budapest or Vienna as both cities have wonderful Christmas markets... Mrs Derek would be very happy.

Re: Christmas Markets.

Yes, we are going to the Sofia one ourselves, and then we are thinking of doing the Budapest one as well once seeing as we are in the BG capital. Got us thinking as WizzAir are doing flights from there for 30 leva.

We have done Paris, Salzburg, Prague and Vienna. So this could be another 2 off the Boss's Xmas list.

Re: Christmas Markets.

Actually I will also be in Sofia on the second so I may also go to the fair.
I particularly like the Irish stand /pub (as i like to broaden my horizons)and it's not unknown for me to prop up the counter for the afternoon, sipping the devil's buttermilk !

Re: Christmas Markets.

Well the Irish stand basically sells Guinness and whiskey ..thats it.
In Sofia city centre there are two Irish pubs, Murphy's and Mc Carthys. The latter is more spit and sawdust but has a great pint of Guinness.

Re: Christmas Markets.

The Alanya International Christmas Fair will be held on Sunday 9th December this year.

This has been held each year for the last 8 years.
Last year Sally and I booked a stall and had a fabulous day offering her Hand Made Christmas Crackers and Cards for all occasions, for sale to many different nationality ExPats and Turkish customers. The Turkish people were really intrigued by the Crackers and many of them bought for their New Year celebrations because they like anything that goes off with a 'Bang'!

There were 130 stalls there last year. Handicrafts from different nations, plenty of different food stalls, home made preserves being just a few of the goodies on offer.

We've got our stall booked again for this year so, come on down! You'll find us on a stand with 'Atlas Cards' across the top of it. Last year it was really lovely when familiar faces turned up from Side and people here are already asking me about the date so, we look forward to seeing you all again.

Re: Christmas Markets.

Here in Espana whilst the locals are more into 3 Kings Festival in January than Xmas -village Christmas festivals do abound

I would suggest to those of you missing Xmas and it's associated festivities- this is the price you pay for turning your back on Christ who was a Christian and opting for a non Christian country. You will all be dammed to the fires of hell
Merry Xmas

Since moving to Spain I see you have turned your back (so to speak ) on Saving Ulster from Sodomy .
Typical.
